The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has made history by being named the Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa by the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore.

This esteemed recognition solidifies the National Cybercrime Center’s (NPF-NCCC) position as a continental leader in the fight against digital fraud, surpassing cybercrime units from 54 African nations.

In 2024, the NPF-NCCC achieved remarkable milestones in its quest to combat cybercrime.

The unit recorded groundbreaking successes, recovering a staggering ₦8.82 billion, 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 USD from cyber fraud schemes.

These recovered funds were returned to victims, demonstrating the unit’s unwavering commitment to justice and its dedication to protecting the public from the scourge of cybercrime.

The NPF-NCCC’s accomplishments extend beyond financial restitution. The unit conducted strategic operations, resulting in the arrest of 751 individuals involved in cybercrime and the confiscation of 685 electronic devices, including mobile phones, laptops, and servers.

Significant physical assets such as houses, plots of land, and vehicles linked to cybercriminal activities were also seized, further dismantling the infrastructure that sustains such crimes.

These efforts have significantly disrupted cybercriminal networks, dealing a substantial blow to their operations and sending a strong message that cybercrime will not be tolerated.

The INTERPOL award acknowledges the NPF-NCCC’s innovative strategies, effective enforcement, and substantial contributions to advancing cybersecurity in Africa.

By dismantling networks, recovering stolen assets, and disrupting criminal activities, the unit has positioned Nigeria as a global leader in the fight against cybercrime.
