Mikail T. Aliyu, a public health expert with over 13 years of experience, is not only impacting health systems around the world but also contributing to the development of future global health leaders.
Recently, Mikail was awarded the prestigious Bixby Center for Population, Health, and Sustainability Fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley.
This fellowship recognizes his outstanding work in improving access to reproductive and maternal health services.
Mikail’s career has spanned across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia, where he has led initiatives focused on strengthening healthcare systems and addressing the barriers to quality healthcare.
His expertise in reproductive health, particularly in underserved communities, caught the attention of the Bixby Center, which is renowned for its work in global population and health research.
“This fellowship is an opportunity to continue my work on a global scale and to collaborate with experts who are just as passionate about public health as I am,” said Mikail.
“I’m excited to contribute to groundbreaking research and help develop sustainable healthcare solutions for communities in need.”
During his time at Berkeley, Mikail will focus on strategies to improve maternal and child health, a key area of his expertise.
His past work includes leading major projects with organizations like the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
These initiatives focused on addressing gaps in family planning services, maternal health, and the financial sustainability of health programs.
“I’ve seen firsthand the challenges that many communities face when trying to access basic healthcare services,” Mikail explained.
“Through this fellowship, I hope to develop new ways to support governments and organizations in overcoming these barriers.”
A major key aspect of the Bixby Fellowship is its focus on innovative, community-driven solutions.
Mikail believes that the best way to create lasting change is to work directly with the people affected by health issues.
“The goal is to understand what people need and build solutions around that,” he said. “It’s about creating health systems that work for everyone.”
Mikail’s commitment to improving healthcare access globally remains the same as he continues his research and mentorship role at UC Berkeley.
His fellowship at the Bixby Center is yet another milestone in his journey to revolutionize public health.
