Gospel Singer Bunmi Akinnanu Dies at 46
Nigerian gospel music fans and the wider entertainment community are in mourning following the death of Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known by her stage name “Omije Ojumi”.
She passed away on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos, her family confirmed on January 14.

In the statement, the family said: “With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January, 2026 at Lagos hospital, Nigeria.
May God grant her eternal rest.”
Akinnanu first found widespread recognition with her hit worship song “Omije Ojumi”, a track that resonated deeply with Nigerian Christians and became a staple in churches and homes across the country.
Before her breakthrough in music, she had worked in banking, but later left that career to pursue gospel music full-time.
In 2025, she drew public concern when she openly sought prayers while battling a serious leg injury.
A video from a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan showed her receiving prayers for what was described as persistent bleeding in her leg a condition that many believed was a spiritual attack.
Since her death was announced, tributes have poured in from colleagues, fans, and well-wishers who celebrated her life and music, recalling the joy and comfort her songs brought to worship experiences nationwide.
Her’s passing marks a significant loss for the Nigerian gospel music scene, leaving behind a legacy of worship anthems that carried heartfelt emotion and deep faith.
