Ghana has allocated 33.3 billion cedis ($3.03 billion) to the Ministry of Education in its 2026 budget, up from an estimated 28.3 billion cedis in 2025, according to the government’s budget presentation on Thursday.
The funding will support key education initiatives, including Free Secondary Education, the Ghana Secondary Learning Improvement Programme, the national school feeding programme, and free tertiary education for persons with disabilities, as seen on Ecofin Agency.

Expenditures will also cover infrastructure and learning resources, such as textbooks, furniture, vehicles, new school buildings, teacher housing, and sanitation facilities.
The government launched several reforms in 2025 aimed at enhancing both access to and the quality of education. In July, Ghana and Israel agreed to introduce Israeli EdTech tools to drive the sector’s digital transformation.
In addition to the ministry’s allocation, 9.9 billion cedis have been set aside for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), which finances education infrastructure and equipment across the country.
