Award-winning Nollywood actress, filmmaker and producer Funke Akindele has shared the personal sacrifices she believes have shaped her remarkable success, revealing that years of relentless dedication to her craft came at the expense of her personal life.
According to a report by Daily Post, Akindele made the revelation during an interview with BellaNaija, where she reflected on the commitment required to consistently deliver some of Nigeria’s highest-grossing films.
The acclaimed filmmaker said her achievements in the industry have been driven by an unwavering work ethic, explaining that she devoted nearly all of her time to research, writing and film production while putting her personal wellbeing on hold.

Looking back on her journey, Akindele admitted that she often neglected herself because of the demands of her career. She revealed that she rarely styled her hair except for important public appearances, avoided social gatherings and spent most of her time focused on developing new projects.
“It is a lot of work,” she said, adding that years of complete dedication eventually made her realise how little time she had spent caring for herself. She noted that only recently has she begun prioritising self-care through skincare routines and taking time to appreciate her personal wellbeing.
Akindele described the sacrifices as necessary to achieve the level of success she enjoys today, pointing to the commercial performance of her latest film, Behind The Scene, which she said grossed ₦2.7 billion at the box office.
