Egypt’s Orascom Group, led by billionaire Naguib Sawiris, ranked seventh on Forbes’ 2025 list of Africa’s wealthiest individuals, is moving closer to entering the market in Togo.
According to TogoFirst news agency, Togolese Minister of Investment Promotion Arthur Lilas Trimua said on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, that he met with the Egyptian businessman in Lomé to discuss possible investment opportunities in the country.
Orascom, whose operations span telecommunications, emerging technologies, media, and construction, has been exploring opportunities in the Togolese market for several years.
In 2019, the group secured $170 million in financing from the African Export-Import Bank to support its broader expansion across Africa.

As part of this strategy, Sawiris and his team are currently examining several potential projects in Togo where partnerships could be formed.
The specific sectors under consideration have not yet been disclosed, but Togolese authorities view the discussions as a positive signal of increasing international investor interest in the country’s economic prospects.
Operating across multiple global regions, Orascom Development Holding has spent decades delivering large-scale projects in infrastructure, tourism, real estate, and energy.
A potential expansion into Togo could strengthen the country’s attractiveness to foreign investors while also creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
A major player in telecommunications, the group also made history in Egypt when it launched Mobinil in 1998, the country’s first mobile network operator.
