Bombardier Endorses Dangote Refinery as World-Class Source of Cleaner Jet Fuel

Canadian aerospace manufacturer Bombardier Inc. has endorsed the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Nigeria, describing it as a world-class facility and a vital supplier of cleaner jet fuel for the aviation industry.

The recognition came during a visit to the Lagos-based plant by Bombardier Chairman Pierre Beaudoin and senior company executives.

“Marked as the world’s largest single-train facility, the refinery makes jet fuel in large quantities, and that is good for the industry,” Beaudoin said.

“From what I understand, their jet fuel is environmentally friendly, taking the sulphur out, and that is exceptional.”

He added that the project represents a new global standard for African industrial capacity.

“This is a world-class project. It’s going to turn on innovation in Africa.”

During the visit, Bombardier executives presented a prototype aircraft to Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, in a symbolic gesture of support, Business Insider reported.

The company signaled confidence in the refinery’s ability to deliver high-quality jet fuel at a time when airlines face stricter emissions rules and supply chain volatility.

Dangote, who personally guided the delegation, emphasized that the facility was designed to meet emission and effluent standards set by the World Bank, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the European Union, and Nigeria’s Department of Petroleum Resources.

“We have enough capacity to meet Nigeria’s domestic demand while exporting surplus products globally,” Dangote said.

Since beginning operations, the refinery has reshaped Nigeria’s fuel supply chain.

The government has approved Dangote as the sole supplier of Jet A1 fuel to local airlines, and the plant now delivers about two-thirds of Nigeria’s jet fuel needs, reducing reliance on imports.

Earlier this month, it began exporting jet fuel to Europe and neighboring West African countries, while also displacing European refiners in regional gasoil markets.

The endorsement from Bombardier adds international weight to the project, which initially launched with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

That figure has since been upgraded to 700,000 bpd, with plans to surpass South Korea’s Onsan Refinery, which currently ranks sixth worldwide at 669,000 bpd.

Recently, the Dangote facility also shipped its first batch of gasoline to the United States, marking another milestone in its expansion.

Bombardier’s recognition comes as Dangote pushes to modernize logistics through electric and CNG-powered trucks, a move analysts say could strengthen Africa’s position in the global energy transition.
