This has to change.

That’s why we have created 30 Africa’s Leading Women – Edition 1.

This list is not just a celebration; it is a statement. 

A statement that African women are not waiting for permission to lead. They are already doing it—boldly, brilliantly, and unapologetically.

These are the women shaping Africa’s present and future. These are the 30 Africa’s Leading Women.

SONNIE AGU

Sonnia Agu is the CEO of Sapio Group, encompassing Sapio Foods, Sapio Works, and other initiatives focused on youth empowerment, community development, and sustainable impact. 

Through Sapio Foods, she addresses food security, while Sapio Works tackles unemployment and fosters job creation, positioning the Sapio brand as a driver of innovation and social transformation in Africa and beyond.

ITORO ESSIEN

Itoro Essien is the Founder of Bookers Root, a children’s reading and activity club dedicated to fostering a love for reading among children aged 4 to 9.

Over the past year, the club has read 28 books, held 18 meetings, organized a successful picnic, and arranged enriching excursions that engaged both children and their parents. Through Bookers Root, Itoro aims to redefine children’s literary excellence. 

With over seven years of banking experience and a background as a dedicated stay-at-home mom, Itoro seamlessly integrates organizational, interpersonal, and mentoring skills into her work. She also volunteers as a mentor to children in government schools.

Itoro holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Biotechnology and a Master of Science in Information Technology. Married to an amazing husband and a proud mother of two adorable children, she is committed to nurturing readers and creatives while leaving a lasting impact on her community.

NOEMI MUYA

Noémi Muya is a bilingual (English & French) attorney of the high court of South Africa with expertise in property law (Conveyancing) and corporate law.

She holds a BA Law, LLB, and is currently pursuing an LLM in Banking Law. As the Founder and Director of For Women in Law, she champions gender equity in the legal profession through mentorship, career guidance, and legal education. 

Under her leadership, For Women in Law has grown into a dynamic platform that hosts impactful workshops, including an annual legal careers event that explores diverse and non-traditional legal career paths.

A passionate advocate for women’s visibility and empowerment, Noémi collaborates with schools, universities, and private companies to provide expert advice on career development and mentorship.

She also partners with leading brands to align projects and campaigns with For Women in Law ‘s mission of advancing women in the legal field.

Noémi’s dedication to empowerment extends to presenting at conferences, webinars, and collaborations with organizations to promote gender inclusion and professional growth.

Her work continues to inspire transformative change, fostering an inclusive legal community where women thrive.

MARYJANE UNANKA

Maryjane Unanka is a distinguished lawyer, mediator, and social entrepreneur recognized as “The Catalyst for Social Change.”

She has received several prestigious awards, including the 2024 Mandela Washington Alumni Association of Nigeria’s HER-EXCELLENCE AWARDS and the Africa Emerging Leader Award in Ghana.

Maryjane is the founder of the Maryjane Sustainable Development Initiative (MSDI), which provides sustainable solutions to support the growth and empowerment of children in need.

Through MSDI, Maryjane has established a platform that supports the holistic development of children, including education, health, emotional support, and skill development.

Her approach inspires and mobilizes others to join the cause, making MSDI a beacon of hope for children to develop and achieve their ambitions.

Maryjane is a graduate of the School of Politics, Policy and Governance and continues to make notable contributions in her community.

FESTUS ABIGAIL

Festus Abigail is a social entrepreneur and a girl child advocate with a profound sense of responsibility towards building a society where no girl is left behind and young girls are empowered to have equal opportunity and participation in the society. 

As the Founder and Executive Director of FAB Treasure Foundation, Abigail has impacted the lives of over 10,000 women and girls in secondary schools and underserved communities. 

Her work includes providing menstrual health and hygiene education, distributing free sanitary pads, and inspiring girls to recognize their potential and thrive.

Her transformational work has garnered widespread recognition, including being recognised by Peak Milk as an Unstoppable Human of Change.

Abigail’s advocacy has also been featured by numerous reputable media outlets, including prominent print publications and television stations, amplifying the reach and significance of her work.

OZIOMA AGU

Ozioma Agu is a Partner at Stren & Blan Partners, leading the Energy, Finance, and Infrastructure Practice Group. With years of experience, she has advised on various aspects of banking and project financing, totaling over USD$3 billion.

Her expertise covers secured and unsecured cross-border lending, project finance, and general corporate and commercial guidance.

Ozioma has also made significant contributions to the energy sector, particularly in Oil & Gas and Power, advising on major deals and facilitating funding for key oil and gas companies.

Ozioma’s dedication and excellence have earned her numerous accolades, including IFLR recognitions, The ESQ 40 Under 40 awards, and recognition by the Legal 500 Directory. In 2024, she was honored as one of the 25 Under 40 Energy Women Rising Stars by the African Energy Chamber.

Amanda Obidike

She is an accomplished non-profit leader and Data Scientist with 11 years experience in directing social enterprises, start-ups and complex organizations in Africa, Europe and MENA Nations.

In 2024, she made the 10 African Women leaders in Technology and 2023, she made the “Women Who change the World” list, Top 100 Women of the Future in Emerging Tech, amongst many others.

She has also been celebrated by Forbes Science as an African changing the culture fabric for young talents to embrace opportunities in Science and Technology.

She serves as a Mentor in the New York Academy of Science and Cherie Blair Foundation, Global thinkers for Women where she lends her voice and knowledge to serve as a role model to girls in Africa.

DR. CHANITA FOSTER

Dr. Chanita Foster is a renowned Social Change Philanthropist, entrepreneur, and best-selling author. She is the founder of RockStar Global Investments, a pioneering enterprise unlocking global market potential, and Beyond The Game, a non-profit addressing Period Poverty and supporting marginalized communities.

Dr. Foster’s expertise spans policy advocacy, communications, mental health awareness, global inclusion, and social sector expertise.

Dr. Foster’s achievements have earned her numerous awards, including the United Nations Global Award and Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards from Presidents Obama, Trump, and Biden.

She is a sought-after speaker, success coach, and moderator, empowering individuals worldwide through her Peace Purpose Paid coaching program.

Dr. JESCA MHOJA 

Dr. Jesca Mhoja Nkwabi is an award-winning businesswoman and serial entrepreneur with extensive experience in education, research, and business consulting.

She is the certified director and CEO of KOM group of companies, with investments in oil processing, agroprocessing, and food manufacturing. Dr. Jesca holds a master’s degree in International Business and Finance and a Doctorate in Business Administration.

Dr. Jesca is a strong research professional with over 7 publications and has completed leadership development trainings from Oxford University and Harvard University.

She promotes entrepreneurship among youth and women, serving as Chairperson of Young Women Entrepreneurs and a member of Moving Women Empowerment Network and Lioness of Africa.

Dr. Jesca’s exceptional achievements have earned her numerous local and international awards, recognizing her as a leading entrepreneur and business leader in Africa.

GLORY OKORO


Glory Ijeoma Okoro is a Legal Practitioner in Nigeria who specializes in Human Rights Advocacy and Women Empowerment. She is part of an initiative that raises awareness of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy in Nigeria called WEELiftNaija.

Glory founded a Non-Governmental Organization called The Mercy Inmate Aid Foundation also known as The Mercy Project which proffers free legal services for indigent inmates awaiting trial in Nigerian Prisons.

Other core values of the Organization are; raising an awareness of the marginalization indigent inmates face, in Nigeria’s Criminal Justice System and  the Rehabilitation of the inmates we have successfully secured their release.

PORTIA NCWANE 

Portia Ncwane is a 32-year-old multi-award-winning South African producer, director, cultural activist, dance choreographer, and actress.

She is the founder and CEO of the Portia Ncwane Foundation, a non-profit arts and leadership organization, and Sbani Media Productions, a creative media company focused on African and women’s stories.

Portia is passionate about arts education, youth empowerment, and cultural storytelling, combining traditional African heritage with modern platforms to drive social change.

Portia has received numerous awards for her work, including the Golden Shield Award for Young Heritage Activist, Gagasi FM Shero Awards Entertainment and Music winner, and Best Documentary at the 12th African Emerging Filmmakers Awards.

She has impacted over 6,200 youth through her cultural exchange workshops and leadership programs. Portia is an alumni of the Mandela Washington Fellowship and has made television appearances on Netflix, Showmax, and other national and international platforms.

TAFADZWA CHIGANGA

Tafadzwa is a pioneering venture builder, ecosystem builder, and visionary leader.

As co-founding principal of Muzambiringa SL, Sierra Leone’s first venture-building studio and venture capital initiative, she has empowered over 1,000 entrepreneurs, facilitating access to millions of dollars in follow-on capital.

Muzambiringa is now establishing an investment fund to support entrepreneurs overcoming post-traumatic stress.

Tafadzwa is also co-founder and executive director of Craving for Development (C4D), a pan-African NGO operating across Sierra Leone and the Mano River region.

Her work has earned her the 2024 Immigrant Ecosystem Builder Champion Award. With a career spanning finance, investments, operations, and innovation across multiple continents, Tafadzwa serves on influential boards, including the FinTech Service Providers Association (FITSPA) in Uganda.

DR. IRIS ZEMZA 

Ambassador Dr. Iris Mhlanga is a distinguished pharmacologist, author, and philanthropist who has made a significant impact in humanitarian endeavors.

As the founder of the Nozizwe Mother of Nations Trust, she spearheads initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Zimbabwe and Ghana, focusing on child welfare, disability support, women’s empowerment, and food security.

Dr. Mhlanga’s contributions have been recognized internationally, including her selection as a finalist for the Women Changing the World awards and winner of the Woman Icon Award 2024.

She serves as an Ambassador with the World Organisation of Ambassadors, representing Southern Africa’s interests globally and fostering strong diplomatic relations.

Her work exemplifies the power of combining professional expertise with humanitarian service and diplomatic engagement to create positive change.

KHANYISILE MOLABA

Khanyisile Molaba is an award-winning entrepreneur, community developer, and storyteller with extensive experience in the media and communications industry.

She has held various roles, including business and politics reporter, digital editor, and producer for television, radio, and print.

Khanyisile is the founder of Dynasty Brandworx, a 100% African Youth-Led digital servicing and creative communications business that was voted one of South Africa’s Top Gender-Empowered companies in 2021.

Khanyisile is a renowned leader in empowering African women and youth. She has led and facilitated various social, entrepreneurial, and educational initiatives, partnering with organizations such as the UK-South Africa Tech Hub.

She has been recognized for her contributions to youth development and digital literacy, receiving awards such as the Unsung Hero award by Sunday World and African Bank.

Khanyisile is also a mentor on various programs, including the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Program, and has been supported by organizations such as The Graça Machel Trust and the Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF).

ABIOLA ADEDIRAN 

Abiola Adediran is a renowned Family Business Advisor and corporate finance expert with nearly two decades of experience. She has held key positions, including Group Chief Financial Officer at Coronation Group, Manager at KPMG Professional Services, and Partner at Genea Family Office. Abiola is also the Managing Consultant of Midridge International, a pan-African strategy consulting firm.

Abiola is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a certified Management Consultant, and holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School.

She serves on the boards of start-ups, mentors entrepreneurs, and is a keynote speaker and author. Abiola has been recognized as one of Nigeria’s 100 Most Inspiring Women and is a member of the Forbes Business Council.

She is passionate about driving positive change and creating legacies for the next generation.

CAROLYN SEAMAN

Carolyn Seaman is a lawyer, social entrepreneur, and filmmaker with over 25 years of experience advocating for girls’ and women’s rights.

She is the Founder and Creative Director of Girls Voices Initiative, a nonprofit that educates and empowers girls to amplify their voices, advocate for their rights, and leverage technology and digital media for social change.

Her work has impacted over a million adolescent girls across West Africa, building a strong movement for gender equality. She has represented West-Africa in the African Union and Girls Not Brides campaigns to end child marriage, and co-chaired Nigeria’s National Coalition on the issue. 

A tech and media leader, she coordinated the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Abuja Network and currently serves as President of the TechWomen Nigeria Alumni Association, driving women’s empowerment in technology.

Under her leadership, Girls Voices Initiative won the 2019 With and For Girls Award for the Most Disruptive Girl-Led Nonprofit in Sub-Saharan Africa and the 2020 BPeace Women Forward Global Award Gold Winner for the Next Generation Workplace.

As an award-winning filmmaker, Carolyn’s films and documentaries have screened in over 32 international film festivals, including the Toronto and Los Angeles International Women’s Film Festivals.

She is also the Founder and Festival Director of the largest women’s film festival in Africa, the Women’s International Film Festival Nigeria (WIFFEN).

OPHADILE GOFHAMODIMO 

A dedicated writer, podcaster, poet, researcher, wellness and transformational coach who uses her creative and professional platforms to contribute to personal and communal development.

Her work spans storytelling, poetry, and holistic wellness, reflecting a commitment to meaningful engagement with individuals and communities. 

Her poetry has been featured in international anthologies, and she collaborates with local artists to merge literary and visual arts.

Ophadile’s upcoming booklet includes recent poems and selected works from her anthology contributions, complemented by commissioned digital artworks from local artists.

She regularly performs at Travelodge Poetry Nights, held on the last Thursday of each month, using these opportunities to expand her craft through recitation.

Her recent feature in Tlhakakgolo Literary Journal and Poetry Journal (Nigeria), marks a growing presence within Botswana’s literary scene and a focus on local and international collaborations. 

Through her business, The Urge Promotions, Ophadile delivers coaching and wellness initiatives aimed at fostering holistic development.

This work has led to her nomination for the Founder of the Year Africa Awards 2024 in the Social Founder of the Year and Healthpreneur of the Year categories, She Awards Global 2024 under Healthpreneur of the Year, and has won Best Poet through Poetry From Within booklet under OPHIR Awards for Writers 2025 that is organised by Poetry Planet Publishing House in the Philippines.

She has introduced Rap/Hip Hop to her craft, and is now working on projects to launch as a music artist. Latest single: A Broken Past, Piece By Piece

CHINWE OKOLI

Chinwe Okoli is an innovator, entrepreneur, and policy leader with a strong track record in advancing entrepreneurship, education, innovation, and technology across Nigeria and Africa.

With a B.Sc. in Economics in Nigeria and an M.Sc. in Public Policy and Management in the United Kingdom, she combines academic excellence with impactful leadership.

As Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Innovation and Business Incubation, Chinwe leads the development of the Solution Innovation District (SID) and high-impact initiatives such as the Code Anambra Program and the “1 Million Anambra Digital Tribe” program, empowering over 1,000,000 youth with digital skills and fostering sustainable economic growth.

Previously, as Executive Director of Grand Africa Initiative (GAIN), she impacted about one million African youth annually through onsite and online entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and leadership programs.

She also managed Roar Nigeria Hub and Lion Science Park, incubating startups that gained international recognition and building the first university-embedded science park in Nigeria.

Chinwe is a member of the Anambra State Education Advisory Council and plays a key role in shaping educational policies, particularly through the Governor’s Smart Schools initiative.

A global speaker and published author of two books, Chinwe continues to champion youth empowerment, digital literacy, and Africa’s economic transformation.

OBARE PRINCESS DAFIAGHOR

Obare Princess Dafiaghor is the founder of Goldstone Attorneys, a law firm committed to advancing SDG 5 by addressing gender disparity in the legal profession through the curation of a team of lawyer moms.

With over a decade of expertise in legal, tax, and regulatory compliance matters, she has made significant contributions to the nonprofit and corporate sectors.

As the visionary behind the Project 1000 Initiative, Obare works to help 1,000 Nigerian CSOs achieve regulatory compliance at no cost.

She has led impactful programs such as the British Council EU-ACT Training and the Global Rights Regulatory Compliance Workshop, helping organizations improve their governance and operational standards.

In addition to her work with nonprofits, Obare has provided pro bono legal advisory services through TrustLaw, Thomson Reuters Foundation.

She regularly speaks on topics related to tax law and regulatory compliance at conferences, seminars, and on media platforms. Obare’s excellence has been recognized with an award for her contributions to the legal field.

She is a Fellow of the Nigerian School of Internet Governance and holds memberships with the Nigerian Bar Association, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, and the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria. 

She is redefining and simplifying Nigeria’s regulatory compliance culture.

REANNE OLIVIER 

Reanne Olivier, of Haitian descent, has lived and worked in countries in Africa, Europe, and North America. With over a decade of experience in nonprofit program management and instructional design across Africa and other parts of the Global South, she specializes in designing and developing highly effective learning materials to enhance knowledge retention among young people, talent management, and relationship building.

She is the co-founder of Africa Matters Initiative, a youth-led organization dedicated to empowering and upskilling African youth. As the CEO, she has led successful youth programs promoting transformative leadership and community advancement across 23 African countries impacting over 27,000 young people.

Beyond her leadership roles, she is a gender activist, facilitator, problem solver, and mother. Her international exposure and travels have given her a global perspective, earning her the reputation of being a global think tank.

Reanne holds a Bachelor’s Honours in International Studies from Stellenbosch University and MSc in Africa & International Development from the University of Edinburgh. In 2024, she was awarded the Top 25 Women in Management Africa award.

BOLANLE AUSTEN-PETERS

Bolanle Austen-Peters is a visionary in Nigeria’s creative industry, celebrated for her contributions to theatre, film, and culture. As the founder of Terra Kulture, a cultural hub in Lagos, she has played a vital role in promoting Nigerian art, literature, and theatre.

Her passion for storytelling and the preservation of African heritage led her to create multiple successful stage productions, including Saro the Musical, Fela and the Kalakuta Queens, and Death and the King’s Horseman.

These productions have not only entertained audiences but have also positioned Nigerian theatre on the global stage.

Beyond theatre, Bolanle has made a significant impact in Nollywood, directing and producing films that challenge narratives and celebrate African excellence.

She directed The Bling Lagosians and Man of God, which received critical acclaim for their storytelling and cultural relevance. She has won numerous awards for her contributions to the arts and continues to be a force in the creative space, proving that Nigerian theatre and film can thrive both locally and internationally.

TARA FELA-DUROTOYE

Tara Fela-Durotoye is a pioneer in Nigeria’s beauty industry and the founder of House of Tara, a leading makeup brand that has redefined African beauty standards.

Starting from a small makeup business in her home, she built an empire that now boasts multiple studios, a beauty academy, and a range of products catering to African women.

Her work has been instrumental in professionalizing makeup artistry in Nigeria, creating opportunities for thousands of young women through training and entrepreneurship.

A strong advocate for women’s empowerment, Tara launched the Beauty Entrepreneur Program, which equips women with business and makeup skills, helping them build financial independence.

Her contributions to the industry have earned her numerous accolades, including recognition from Forbes and the World Economic Forum. Through her leadership, she continues to inspire African women to break barriers and redefine success on their own terms.

IBUKUN AWOSIKA

Ibukun Awosika is a business leader, author, and advocate for ethical leadership and entrepreneurship. She made history as the first female Chairman of First Bank Nigeria, where she played a key role in shaping the bank’s corporate strategy and governance.

With decades of experience in business, she is also the founder of The Chair Centre Group, a furniture manufacturing company that has become a major player in Nigeria’s industrial sector.

Beyond business, Ibukun is a mentor and public speaker, empowering young Africans with knowledge on leadership, integrity, and financial literacy.

She has served on several boards and advisory councils, including the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and the International Women’s Entrepreneurial Challenge Foundation.

Through initiatives like After School Graduate Development Center (AGDC), she actively contributes to youth empowerment, reinforcing her commitment to shaping Nigeria’s future leaders.

MO ABUDU

Mo Abudu is one of Africa’s most influential media moguls, changing the way African stories are told on a global scale.

As the founder of EbonyLife Media, she has produced some of Nigeria’s most successful films and TV shows, including The Wedding Party, Oloture, and Blood Sisters. Through EbonyLife, she has created a platform that showcases Africa’s rich culture, talent, and stories, positioning Nollywood as a major force in the global entertainment industry.

Her impact extends beyond film and television—Mo is an advocate for African women in media and business. She has partnered with Netflix, Sony, and AMC to expand African storytelling to international audiences.

Recognized by Forbes and the Hollywood Reporter as one of the most powerful women in global entertainment, Mo Abudu continues to push boundaries, proving that African media can compete on the world stage.

FUNKE AKINDELE

Funke Akindele is a Nollywood superstar, producer, and director whose work has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s film industry. She rose to fame with Jenifa, a character that evolved into the widely successful TV series Jenifa’s Diary, which became a cultural phenomenon in Nigeria.

Her comedic brilliance, business acumen, and storytelling skills have made her one of the most bankable actresses in Nollywood, consistently breaking box-office records with her films.

In 2022, she co-directed Battle on Buka Street, which became one of the highest-grossing Nollywood films. More recently, A Tribe Called Judah shattered records as the first Nigerian movie to gross over ₦1 billion in cinemas.

Beyond entertainment, Funke has ventured into politics and social impact, advocating for youth empowerment and community development. Her ability to blend entertainment with strong messaging makes her an icon in Nigerian cinema.

OSARETIN DEMUREN

Osaretin Demuren is a trailblazer in Nigeria’s banking sector, having made history as the first female Chairman of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).

With decades of experience in financial services, she has contributed significantly to banking reforms and policies that enhance financial inclusion and corporate governance in Nigeria. Her leadership at GTBank set new standards for diversity and inclusion in Nigeria’s banking industry.

Aside from her achievements in finance, Osaretin is passionate about mentoring young professionals and advocating for women’s representation in leadership roles.

She has served on several boards and is involved in various initiatives that support financial literacy and economic empowerment. Her legacy continues to inspire young women looking to break barriers in male-dominated industries.

ADESUWA ONYENOKWE

Adesuwa Onyenokwe is a veteran journalist, broadcaster, and media entrepreneur known for using her voice to champion women’s rights and social issues.

She is the founder and publisher of TW Magazine, a lifestyle and empowerment publication that amplifies the voices of African women.

With decades of experience in television, she has hosted talk shows and programs that address societal challenges, particularly those affecting women.

Her career in media has been marked by a dedication to storytelling that drives change. Through her magazine and media presence, she has sparked important conversations on gender equality, domestic violence, and career growth for women.

Adesuwa remains a respected figure in Nigerian media, inspiring the next generation of female journalists and storytellers.

NKEMDILIM BEGHO

Nkemdilim Begho is a leading figure in Nigeria’s tech industry, recognized for her contributions to digital transformation and innovation.

As the CEO of FutureSoft, she has helped businesses and organizations leverage technology for growth, focusing on digital strategy, e-learning, and enterprise solutions.

She is one of the few women driving change in Nigeria’s male-dominated tech space.

Nkemdilim is also deeply committed to empowering young people in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). She is involved in initiatives that encourage more women to pursue careers in technology, bridging the gender gap in the industry. Her work has earned her numerous awards, including recognition from Forbes as a leading tech entrepreneur in Africa.

PEACE HYDE

Peace Hyde is a Ghanaian-British journalist, media personality, and entrepreneur, widely known for her work with Forbes Africa.

As the Head of Digital Media and Partnerships at Forbes Africa, she has transformed the brand’s digital presence while creating impactful content that tells the stories of Africa’s biggest business leaders.

Her documentary series African Giants has been instrumental in highlighting Africa’s economic growth and innovation.

Beyond journalism, Peace is the founder of Aim Higher Africa, an organization dedicated to empowering young African entrepreneurs.

Through mentorship and training programs, she has helped thousands of young people build sustainable businesses. Her work in media and education continues to inspire a new wave of African innovators.

STEPHANIE BUSARI
