Born on 21 October 1984 in Lagos State, Nigeria, Onyeka’s early life took a different turn when his family relocated to Sokoto State in Northern Nigeria when he was barely two years old.
It was there he completed his primary and secondary education, growing up in a different cultural and social landscape that shaped his adaptability and curiosity.
He later pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Information Technology at Sikkim Manipal University, India, graduating with First Class Honours.
That foundation in technology became the springboard for what would become a career defined by experimentation, execution, and impact.
Onyeka’s professional journey began in digital and marketing roles across leading organizations. He worked as a Webmaster at the British Council before joining Deloitte as E-Marketing Coordinator for East, West, and Central Africa.
He later served as Online Marketing Manager at Wakanow and also contributed to the launch of the SME Market Hub at GTBank.
His experience expanded further across major African tech and e-commerce ecosystems, including Jumia, Konga, and Travelbeta, where he supported marketing and commercial growth initiatives.
But Onyeka was never just an employee in the digital economy, he was quietly becoming one of its architects.
In 2016, he co-founded Farmcrowdy, Nigeria’s pioneering digital agriculture platform, alongside a team of co-founders. The idea was simple but powerful: connect small-scale farmers with investors to improve food production and strengthen agricultural value chains.
What started as an experiment quickly gained traction, receiving early angel funding and later a $1 million seed investment through the Techstars Atlanta Accelerator program.
Farmcrowdy went on to work with tens of thousands of rural farmers across multiple Nigerian states, creating structured access to financing, markets, and technical support. The impact of the platform earned recognition at national levels, including acknowledgment from Nigeria’s Vice President and honours such as the National Productivity Order of Merit.
Beyond agriculture, Onyeka expanded his footprint into mobility and infrastructure.
In 2019, after experiencing everyday transportation challenges, he co-founded Treepz Inc. (formerly Plentywaka), a shared mobility platform designed to make commuting across African cities safer, more reliable, and more convenient.
Treepz now operates across Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda, having served hundreds of thousands of riders and building partnerships aimed at digitising large-scale transport systems. The company focuses on shared rides, travel mobility, and ticketing solutions, reimagining how people move across urban Africa.
His entrepreneurial portfolio also includes involvement in ventures such as Crowdyvest, Plentywaka, and RentSmallSmall, reflecting a consistent focus on platforms that solve real-life infrastructure and access challenges.
Across his career, Onyeka has been recognized among Nigeria’s leading entrepreneurs and has been featured in platforms such as Forbes Africa and TechCrunch, where he has shared insights on African startups, scale, and global expansion.
