Nigeria was plunged into darkness on Wednesday 10th September, 2025 after the national electricity grid suffered yet another collapse, disrupting power supply across the country.
According to updates from the official platform monitoring grid performance, distribution at 12:25 p.m. showed minimal supply to only a handful of electricity distribution companies.
Abuja DisCo received 20MW, Benin DisCo 10MW, and Ibadan DisCo 20MW, while Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola DisCos all recorded zero allocation, Sahara Reporters reported.
The collapse comes just months after a similar nationwide outage in March, which left major cities including Lagos without power.
Wednesday’s incident occurred only days after the Federal Government announced a “historic rise” in power generation to 6,000MW.
However, grid disturbances saw generation plummet dramatically. By 2:00 p.m., total output had dropped below 1,000MW, down from around 4,000MW earlier in the day. The highest level of generation recorded before the collapse was 5,284MW.

Confirming the development, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) issued a notice to customers on Wednesday afternoon.
“Dear esteemed customer, please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 07/03/2025, at 14:00hrs, affecting supply within our network,” the company stated.
Grid instability remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing infrastructure challenges, with repeated system failures highlighting deep-rooted issues in transmission and distribution.
Analysts warn that the recurrent collapses not only disrupt daily life for millions of households but also undermine business confidence and economic productivity.
