Ethiopia has taken a significant step in boosting its defense capabilities and sovereignty with the inauguration of Sky Wing Industry, a company that produces unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for both commercial and military uses.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed revealed that the manufacture of UAV drones is intended not only for local use but also for export, highlighting the country’s capacity to sell these drones to other markets.
The locally manufactured drones are designed to function efficiently at high altitudes and are outfitted with counter-drone capabilities to combat any airborne threats.
They also utilize powerful artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve their operating efficiency, making them adaptable instruments for a range of tactical objectives, including offensive, defensive, surveillance, and intelligence collecting activities.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating that the ability to produce drones with diverse capabilities is a testament to the skills of Ethiopia’s young professionals. He urged further study and cooperation across organizations to improve Ethiopia’s standing in drone innovation and technology.
The production of drones is not only a boost to Ethiopia’s defense capabilities but also a strategic move to tap into the global drone market. With the increasing demand for drones in various industries, Ethiopia’s entry into the export market could provide a significant economic boost.
