British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has confirmed plans to relocate his residency from the United Kingdom to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, marking a major personal and business shift for the former heavyweight champion.
Nairametrics report that the 36-year-old Olympic gold medalist formally disclosed the move through corporate filings linked to his business interests, which now list the UAE as his official country of residence. The documents relate to his companies, including Sparta Promotions and 258 Investments, which collectively form part of his estimated £150 million business empire.
Joshua’s decision effectively ends decades of residence in the United Kingdom, where he was born in Watford to Nigerian parents and rose to global prominence after winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics before becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion.
The relocation comes despite rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with the UAE recently affected by regional security threats linked to the wider conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Nevertheless, Joshua has proceeded with the change in residency status.
Dubai has long been a familiar base for the boxer. He frequently trains in the city and uses its sports facilities for camps and brand promotion. In 2017, Joshua staged a high-profile sparring session on the helipad of the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, highlighting his longstanding relationship with the emirate.
Analysts also point to Dubai’s appeal among wealthy athletes and entrepreneurs due to its zero personal income tax and luxury lifestyle. Joshua reportedly faced significant tax liabilities in the UK, including dividends of over £10 million in 2024 and £6.3 million in 2023.
The move follows a difficult period for the boxer after a tragic road accident in Nigeria in 2025 claimed the lives of two close members of his team, personal trainer Kevin ‘Latz’ Ayodele and therapist Sina Ghami. Joshua has since been undergoing rehabilitation and gradually returning to training.
Nigeria News NowHis relocation places him among a growing list of high-profile British millionaires shifting residency to low-tax jurisdictions as part of broader personal and financial strategies.
