Sanlam and MTN MoMo Unlock Investing for All Ugandans, Starting at Just $0.27

Ugandans can now invest in professionally managed funds using nothing more than a mobile phone, thanks to a new partnership between MTN Mobile Money (MTN MoMo) and Sanlam Investments East Africa.

The duo has launched Yinvesta, a first-of-its-kind mobile-enabled unit trust investment product aimed at making financial growth simple, accessible, and affordable for all Ugandans.

The product allows individuals to start investing with as little as UGX1,000, about (US$0.27), and offers daily interest, easy withdrawals, and real-time access to investment information via the MTN MoMo app or USSD code.

MTN MoMo describes Yinvesta as a revolutionary solution that empowers customers to take control of their financial future with confidence and transparency.

“Technology has transformed business operations and the investment industry is no exception,” said Jonathan Stichbury, Chief Executive Officer of Sanlam Investments East Africa.

“With the launch of Yinvesta, we are revolutionising the way Ugandans invest…We are excited about the potential of this partnership, which will have a profound impact in the financial landscape of Uganda.”

Yinvesta operates as a unit trust, a regulated investment vehicle that pools funds from multiple individuals into a single professionally managed portfolio.

This structure offers risk diversification and a stable return profile, making it particularly attractive for first-time and small-scale investors.

The product is fully licensed by the Capital Markets Authority of Uganda under the Collective Investments Schemes Act of 2003, ensuring compliance and regulatory oversight.

The official launch of Yinvesta featured a live demonstration, an expert panel on financial literacy, and deep-dive investment insights, reinforcing its goal of boosting public awareness around personal finance and wealth building.

With just a few taps on their phone, Ugandans can now begin investing immediately using the MTN MoMo app or by dialing a dedicated short code, a convenience that reflects the growing role of mobile platforms in reshaping financial inclusion across the continent.

MTN MoMo says this initiative is part of its broader commitment to providing innovative digital financial services that meet the everyday needs of its customers, particularly in underserved communities.
