Wole-Taiwo Olamide: The Artist Using Creativity to Reshape Africa’s Story

From the historic town of Badagry, Nigeria, where heritage and hope intertwine, emerges Wole-Taiwo Olamide, an artist, linguist, writer, and interior decorator who is redefining how art connects with the soul of a continent.

With each brushstroke, Olamide tells stories not just of Africa’s past, but of a rebirthed, refined, and resilient future.

Olamide, a graduate of Lagos State University with a B.A. in English Language, has always approached creativity as a tool for reflection and transformation.

Her works, often abstract, vibrant, and layered with meaning, explore emotional and physical states, addressing themes like resilience, introspection, and the unending journey of the creative spirit.

Whether through acrylics or spray paint on canvas, Olamide’s pieces are both personal and universal.

Her painting “Finding Strength” delves into the exhaustion of artistic pursuit, while “Feeling Seen” captures that bittersweet moment when one emerges from invisibility through art.

Her concept of the “Eternal Dance” powerfully portrays life’s cyclical nature and the deep interconnectedness that binds us all.

For Olamide, art is more than visual beauty; it is a form of dialogue. Her works invite audiences not only to look, but to feel and share.

By encouraging viewers to reflect on their own journeys and leave their stories in response to her pieces, she creates a shared space of empathy and connection. Her talent has earned her recognition across continents.

Olamide has exhibited at prestigious events such as Badagry Festival Art Day (2014, 2015), Felabration: Viva Nigeria, Viva Africa Art Exhibition (2021), Manchester VR Exhibition (2020), Pakistan International Contemporary Art Festival (2022), Yoruba Ni Mi Online Exhibition (2022), and most recently, ODUN IFA Exhibition: Yoruba Gallery (2023) and Omo Daada Foundation EMPOWERED 1.0 (2024).

She has also been featured in The Visibility and Remembrance Art Exhibit at the University of South Florida and publications like INSIGHT: A Fokus Publication (2021).

Her work stood out in the Stand Together Essay and Artwork Competition by ONE in Africa (2021), where she placed 4th out of 118 entries.

Through her dynamic exhibitions, community engagement, and passion for a reimagined Africa, Wole-Taiwo Olamide continues to inspire a generation, proving that art is not only for walls but for hearts, a force that heals, unites, and envisions a better tomorrow.
