Tinubu Sets Q1 2026 Deadline for National Single Window Project to Rollout

President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Single Window (NSW) Steering Committee to ensure that the digital trade facilitation platform becomes fully operational by the first quarter of 2026.

The order was delivered on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja during the committee’s fifth meeting.

Representing the President was his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, who emphasized the urgency of the project, linking it to the administration’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy.

He noted that the recently enacted Tax Reform Acts demonstrate the government’s commitment to major structural changes and urged all involved agencies to step up efforts to meet the project’s deadlines.

“This project is one of Mr. President’s transformative initiatives, and we must stay focused to meet our timelines and deliver the results expected of us,” Gbajabiamila said.

Describing the NSW as a centralized digital system, he said it would streamline Nigeria’s import and export processes by connecting all relevant trade agencies through a single portal.

The platform is expected to improve transparency, reduce trade costs, and enhance Nigeria’s reputation in global commerce.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said progress so far has been “encouraging” but noted the urgent need to move from planning to execution.

“This project is complex, but transformational. We must now move from strategy to action,” Edun said, urging stronger cooperation among the implementing agencies.

Also speaking at the meeting, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, stressed that the March 2026 deadline must be met without exception.

Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, thanked President Tinubu for consistently supporting the project and highlighted its legal status.

“When we started last month, this was just a project. It is now enshrined in law. The reward for hard work is more work,” he said, encouraging committee members to stay committed.

Tola Fakolade, Director of the National Single Window Project, reported that all second-quarter 2025 targets have been achieved and that customisation of the platform is currently in progress.

“We are confident of meeting our rollout deadline,” Fakolade assured. The National Single Window, launched in April 2024, is a key digital trade initiative by the Federal Government designed to bring all trade-related agencies onto one online platform.

It aims to simplify the import and export process, reduce port delays, minimise human interference, and cut out overlapping procedures.

The platform is expected to boost investment and support economic diversification.

The Steering Committee includes members from the Ministries of Finance and Trade, the FIRS, and the Nigeria Customs Service.
