Russia has launched its first large-scale, multi-functional editorial center in Ethiopia, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to expand its media presence in Africa.
The center, located in Addis Ababa, will create content in Amharic and English, and establish a network of correspondents across the continent, including at the African Union headquarters.
This move is part of Russia’s broader strategy to expand its influence in Africa through diplomatic, economic, and military means. The Kremlin aims to counter Western dominance in African affairs and promote a “multipolar world order” that takes into account the interests of African countries.
The editorial center will produce content for radio, websites, social networks, and applications, and will feature exclusive interviews with African politicians, influencers, and public figures.
Sputnik Africa, Russia’s state-owned news agency, already has a strong presence on the continent, broadcasting daily on FM frequencies in several countries.
The launch of the editorial center was attended by high-profile guests, including Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Russian Federation Council, and Dmitry Kiselev, Director General of Rossiya Segodnya, the media group that owns Sputnik.
