Widely regarded as one of Africa’s leading voices in digital innovation, Rapelang is the Founder and Chairperson of Rekindle Learning, an education technology company that develops digital learning solutions designed to help organizations, educational institutions, and professionals acquire knowledge in more engaging, accessible, and personalized ways.
Born in Botswana and raised in South Africa, Rapelang pursued a Bachelor of Business Science degree with Honours in Computer Science at the University of Cape Town before later completing a Master of Science degree at the same institution.
Her academic background laid the foundation for a career that would place her at the forefront of Africa’s technology ecosystem.
Her entrepreneurial journey began shortly after university when she co-founded Yeigo Communications in 2006, one of Africa’s earliest mobile Voice over Internet Protocol companies. The company gained international recognition for pioneering innovations in mobile internet communication and later merged with Swiss telecommunications company Telfree in 2009.
After Yeigo, Rapelang continued exploring the intersection of technology and human development. In 2014, she founded Rekindle Learning with a vision to make learning more adaptive, engaging, and responsive to the realities of the digital age.
Through Rekindle Learning, she has championed the use of microlearning, mobile technologies, and data-driven learning experiences to help businesses and institutions improve knowledge retention, skills development, and workforce capability.
The company has been recognized for its innovative approach to learning technology and was profiled in the McKinsey Lions Go Digital report as an example of innovation in mobile learning.
Beyond Rekindle Learning, Rapelang has continued to contribute to technology innovation and entrepreneurship through leadership, advisory, and investment roles. She is a founding partner at FFWD Innovation and has also supported early-stage entrepreneurs and innovation initiatives through venture-building and ecosystem development efforts.
In 2023, she became Co-CEO of Imagine Worldwide, an education-focused organization working to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes across Sub-Saharan Africa through technology-enabled learning solutions.
The organization operates across multiple African countries and collaborates with governments and partners to expand access to quality foundational education.
Rapelang’s contributions have earned her significant international recognition. She was featured on the cover of Forbes Africa before the age of 30, named Entrepreneur for the World by the World Entrepreneurship Forum, and selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
She has also been recognized among South Africa’s Inspiring Fifty and listed among influential leaders shaping the future of technology and innovation.
