Kenya’s Top 5 Export Winners in 2024

Kenya’s export sector posted a strong performance in the 2024–2025 fiscal year, with exports climbing by 10.4% to KSh1,112.3 billion, according to the latest Economic Survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.

The growth comes alongside a 12% increase in total government spending, which reached KSh3,605.20 billion, with 86.1% going to recurrent expenditures.

“Exports grew by 10.4% to KSh1,112.3 billion,” the report states, reinforcing the country’s rising trade relevance amid a challenging economic climate.

Kenya’s nominal GDP rose to KSh16,224.5 billion in 2024, up from KSh15,033.6 billion in 2023, though GDP growth slowed to 4.7% from a previously revised 5.7%.

The broader East African Community also saw a dip in growth to 4.7%, down from 5.4%.

Kenya’s key exports, especially in agriculture and light manufacturing, remain essential for national revenue, job creation, and foreign exchange.

The report emphasizes that, “Agricultural exports, in particular, continue to employ a significant section of Kenya’s workforce.

Horticulture and floriculture create thousands of jobs in farming, packing, shipping, and distribution.”

Foreign markets in Europe and the Middle East continue to favor Kenyan tea, coffee, fresh produce, and flowers, which not only boost national income but also help stabilize the Kenyan shilling and balance the country’s imports.

Here are the top five products Kenya sold the most in 2024, according to official figures:

— Horticulture ranked first, and the export was KSh203.6 billion.
— Tea ranked second, and the export was KSh189.1 billion.
— Apparel & Clothing ranked third, and the export was KSh56.8 billion.
— Coffee (unroasted) ranked fourth, and the export was KSh38.4 billion.
— Animal & Vegetable Oils ranked fifth, and the export was KSh30.3 billion.

These export figures reflect Kenya’s expanding global footprint and highlight the importance of supporting domestic industries that continue to thrive in competitive international markets.
