Concerns about a potential shortage of jet fuel ahead of the peak summer travel season have eased significantly as refinery production and exports increase across major markets, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Reuters reported that higher output from refineries in the United States and Europe, combined with stronger export flows, has helped rebalance the global jet fuel market after months of concern over supply constraints.
The findings were contained in the IEA’s latest monthly report, which noted that increased production has improved availability and reduced fears of significant disruptions during one of the busiest periods for global aviation.
According to Reuters, the improvement comes as airlines continue monitoring fuel costs and supply conditions amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and volatility in energy markets.

The IEA reported that refineries in the United States produced more than two million barrels per day of jet fuel in March, while European refineries produced approximately 1.3 million barrels per day.
Production increased further during April and May, helping strengthen global supply levels.
Reuters reported that record U.S. exports to Europe played a major role in easing market concerns, supported by strong domestic production and healthy inventory levels.
The report also highlighted Nigeria’s growing importance in the international jet fuel market.
According to Reuters, Nigeria emerged as one of Europe’s leading suppliers of jet fuel, with imports from the country reaching approximately 127,000 barrels per day during the first part of June.
That figure placed Nigeria among the most significant contributors to Europe’s jet fuel supply chain, alongside the United States.
The development reflects the growing influence of Nigeria’s refining sector, particularly following major investments aimed at increasing domestic refining capacity and expanding exports of refined petroleum products.
