GRIDCo Strengthens Partnerships to Build Ghana’s Resilient Energy Future

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong and reliable electricity transmission grid that not only meets current demands but also supports Ghana’s future socio-economic development.

Speaking at the 7th National Biennial Delegates Congress of the GRIDCo Senior Staff Association (SSA) in Tamale, Acting Deputy Chief Executive Frank Otchere stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in driving the company’s operations forward.

“The future of energy is not built in isolation. Through partnerships with the Millennium Development Authority, World Bank, French Development Agency, European Union and others, we are delivering multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects essential for efficient grid operations,” Otchere said.

The event, held under the theme “Forging Partnership for a Resilient and Sustainable Energy Future,” brought together staff representatives from across the country to review sector challenges and elect new SSA leaders.

Otchere emphasized that meaningful collaboration, including with government, private sector players, investors, and local communities, is essential to tackling the complex issues facing Ghana’s energy sector.

Internally, he urged staff to foster stronger teamwork to achieve GRIDCo’s strategic goals.

On environmental efforts, Otchere announced that GRIDCo is working closely with the Forestry Commission to plant low-growing shrub species along transmission line corridors to prevent illegal activities, such as tree-cutting, that threaten the country’s energy infrastructure.

“Tree-planting is part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation as we adapt to the evolving energy landscape,” he noted.

GRIDCo is also advancing its adoption of smart grid technologies and preparing for greater renewable energy integration, highlighting the company’s collaboration on the Bui Solar Project in Yendi as an example of progress.

National Chairman of the GRIDCo SSA, Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, praised the company’s achievements over the past 16 years, crediting both staff and management for their dedication.

“Stable power supply is essential to national development and GRIDCo has played a central role in achieving that,” Adenyo said.

While acknowledging these successes, he stressed the need for continuous innovation and strategic thinking to address upcoming challenges.

He added that the congress was an opportunity for members to reflect on how best to support GRIDCo’s growth and long-term sustainability.
