The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned the public about fraudulent messages, emails, and online links designed to trick individuals into revealing sensitive banking information.
According to SolaceBase, the alert was issued on April 22, 2026, as the bank noted that scammers are circulating fake communications that appear to be from the CBN in order to mislead users and gain access to personal accounts.

The CBN advised Nigerians not to click on suspicious links or share personal or financial details online, emphasizing that all official communication should be verified through its website or trusted media channels.
It also urged the public to report any suspected fraudulent messages to authorities, adding that it is strengthening cybersecurity measures to protect the financial system.
What This Means For Africa
This is a clear sign that as more Africans move into digital banking, fraud is evolving just as fast. The systems are improving, but the risks are growing alongside them.
If cybersecurity and public awareness don’t keep up, trust in digital finance could easily be shaken, and that would slow down the continent’s progress in building a strong digital economy.
