Nigerian music icon 2Baba marked his 51st birthday with a star-studded celebration in Lagos, bringing together family, longtime industry associates and fellow artists as he also offered an early glimpse of his forthcoming album, The Oldest Young Man.
According to Vanguard, the celebration at Balmoral Event Centre in Victoria Island combined a birthday dinner with an album listening party and the unveiling of another addition to the singer’s growing brand.
The event followed 2Baba’s birthday on September 18 and became a celebration not only of his latest milestone but also of a music career that has stretched across different eras of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The 2Baba 51st birthday gathering featured several familiar faces from the Nigerian entertainment industry, with comedian AY hosting the evening.
Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo “D-One” Adeneye were among those in attendance, alongside 2Baba’s former manager Efe Omorogbe, Tony Tetuila, African China, Marvelous Benjy, Fave, Wande Coal and Darey Art Alade.
Vanguard reports that Ogungbe travelled from California to Lagos for the celebration and used the occasion to reflect on 2Baba’s place in the development of contemporary Nigerian music.
He described the singer as an important name in the history of Afrobeats, pointing to his work across Afropop, R&B, soul, reggae and highlife before the genre reached its current international profile.
“There is no way the story of Afrobeats will be written without mentioning 2Baba first,” Ogungbe said.
D-One also celebrated the singer’s longevity and achievements, telling him, “We are very proud of you. We respect and recognize your achievements. Keep making us feel good, keep giving us the best that you have.”
