Amazon Expands South African Push With Launch Of Prime Membership Service

E-commerce giant Amazon has launched its Prime membership service in South Africa, marking another step in the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence in one of Africa’s largest and most developed consumer markets.

According to Reuters, the service will be available for 59 South African rand per month, or 399 rand annually, giving subscribers access to faster deliveries and digital entertainment benefits.

The launch comes just two years after Amazon officially entered the South African market, underscoring the company’s growing commitment to expanding its footprint across the continent.

Reuters reported that customers signing up for the service will also be eligible for a 30 day free trial as Amazon seeks to attract new users and accelerate adoption.

Prime membership is already available in 26 other countries and forms a key part of Amazon’s global customer retention strategy, combining shopping benefits with digital content offerings.

The company also announced that South African customers will participate in Prime Day, one of Amazon’s largest annual sales events, scheduled to take place from June 23 to June 29.
