Over 400 dismissed truck drivers of BUA Cement have been reinstated following the intervention of the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, Michael Sado, bringing an end to a labour dispute that had disrupted operations in Edo State.
The crisis began after the drivers staged protests over unresolved grievances, prompting the company’s management to sack about 400 workers and shut down its transport operations in Okpella.

The shutdown reportedly triggered economic strain in the host community, increasing unemployment and hardship among residents.
Concerned by the escalating situation, the traditional ruler led a delegation to engage the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, in high-level discussions aimed at resolving the impasse.
The monarch appealed for leniency and reconsideration of the company’s earlier stance, which had ruled out recalling the affected drivers.
Following the intervention, both parties reached an agreement for the immediate reinstatement of the workers.
The resolution reversed the company’s prior decision and restored normalcy to its transport operations.

Beyond reinstating the drivers, Rabiu also approved the payment of outstanding salaries covering the period they were out of work, specifically from January to March.
The development is expected to ease tensions in the community and revive economic activities linked to the company’s operations in the area.
