The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially removed Senator David Mark and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as recognised leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a Court of Appeal ruling.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the electoral body confirmed that it has withdrawn recognition of both men as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party and deleted their names from its official portal.

INEC said the action was taken in compliance with a judgment of the Court of Appeal in a leadership dispute involving the Mark-led faction and another group led by Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The court had ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the final determination of the case at the Federal High Court.
As part of the directive, the commission stated it would no longer recognise any actions, meetings, congresses, or conventions organised by the affected leadership faction.
It also declared that it would refrain from dealing with any group claiming authority within the party until the legal dispute is resolved.
Further reinforcing its neutral stance, INEC indicated it would not recognise any faction within the ADC and would suspend monitoring of party activities to avoid violating court orders.

The development marks a significant escalation in the internal crisis within the ADC, a party positioning itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Analysts warn the decision could disrupt the party’s preparations, including candidate selection and internal mobilisation.
