Ex-FCT Minister Jumoke Akinjide Resigns from PDP After Over Two DecadesA former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, ending a political association that spanned more than 20 years.
The resignation was conveyed in a formal letter dated March 30, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In the letter, Akinjide stated that her decision takes immediate effect and followed “a long period of personal reflection.” She acknowledged that leaving the party was difficult, noting her long-standing membership since 2001.
Despite her exit, she expressed appreciation for the opportunities and relationships built during her time in the party, and wished the PDP success going forward.
Akinjide’s resignation was confirmed by close associates, reinforcing the development as a verified political move.
The former minister served in the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan between 2011 and 2015, where she held the position of Minister of State for the FCT.
She also briefly acted as Supervising Minister of Police Affairs in 2014. Her exit marks another high-profile defection amid ongoing shifts within Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future electoral cycles.
