Cameroon’s Banana Exports Rise 7% in 2025 as CDBM and CDC Drive Growth

Cameroon recorded banana exports of 225,345 metric tons in 2025, reflecting a 7% increase from the 210,686 metric tons shipped in 2024, according to figures from the country’s banana industry association, Assobacam.

The growth was largely driven by two key producers. One is Compagnie des bananes de Mondoni (CDBM), the second Cameroonian subsidiary of France’s Compagnie fruitière de Marseille.

CDBM saw its international sales surge by 69.5% in 2025, reaching 23,814 metric tons compared to 14,052 metric tons the previous year, as seen on Business  in Cameroon.

The other major contributor was the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), a state-owned agro-industrial firm. CDC increased its banana exports by 33.6% in 2025, totaling 42,286 metric tons, up from 31,643 metric tons in 2024.

In contrast, exports from Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP) declined slightly. Data from Assobacam show that PHP, the leading subsidiary of Compagnie fruitière in Cameroon and the dominant player in the domestic market, exported 151,713 metric tons in 2025, down from 153,258 metric tons in 2024, representing a 1% drop.

Boh Plantations Plc also recorded weaker performance. The company, now the smallest operator in the sector following CDBM’s expansion, exported 7,532 metric tons in 2025, marking a 35.8% decrease from 11,733 metric tons in 2024.

This decline is mainly attributed to Boh Plantations halting exports from September 2025 after its assets were acquired by CDBM and PHP.

The acquisition further consolidates the dominance of Compagnie fruitière in Cameroon’s banana industry, where it is now estimated to control more than 80% of production.

Primarily exported to the European Union, bananas remain one of Cameroon’s top ten non-oil export products. The country is targeting an annual production level of 500,000 metric tons by 2030, in line with goals set out in the National Development Strategy 2020–2030.
