BP said on Monday that its Angola-based joint venture, Azule Energy, has started gas production at the Quiluma field, which forms part of the country’s New Gas Consortium (NGC), according to Reuters.

The NGC represents Angola’s first non-associated gas development project and is operated by Azule Energy in partnership with Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, Sonangol, and TotalEnergies

The launch of production at Quiluma marks a significant milestone in Angola’s shift toward non-associated gas development, natural gas extracted from reservoirs without substantial crude oil, and efforts to optimize liquefied natural gas output, strengthening its ambition to become a more prominent player in the global gas market.

BP said initial output at the Quiluma field is expected to reach 150 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), with production projected to increase to 330 mmscf/d by the end of 2026.

The British energy major also said it plans to deliver 10 major project start-ups worldwide by the end of 2027.
