The Founder and CEO of EPC Africa, Ferdy isn’t just generating power, he’s generating possibility. His story is one of grit, brilliance, and a relentless belief that Africa’s darkness, both literal and metaphorical, can be overcome with energy and enterprise.
Born in Burundi in 1984 to Rwandan parents uprooted by conflict, Ferdy’s journey began with uncertainty. But when he returned to Rwanda after the 1994 genocide, he carried more than just hope, he carried purpose.
At Lycée de Kigali, his natural flair for math and physics set him apart, guiding him toward a degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) at the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa.
Even as a student, Ferdy’s entrepreneurial spark burned bright. He launched a student transport and logistics business, proving early on that vision, not circumstance, defines success.
When he returned home in 2008, he transformed his family home into a thriving hospitality venture, Royal Villa, during a housing shortage, his first real taste of turning problems into opportunities.
But his biggest leap came two years later, with the birth of EPC Africa, a company built on conviction, courage, and the desire to electrify the continent.
Today, EPC Africa stands tall with three powerful arms: Energicotel – long-term investments in power generation; Afrilott – consulting and design supervision; and CPC – engineering and project execution.
Under Ferdy’s leadership, EPC Africa has delivered 3.32 megawatts to Rwanda’s national grid and continues to expand access to sustainable energy in underserved communities.
But beyond the numbers lies a man of profound wisdom and empathy. Unshaken by stereotypes about youth and inexperience, Ferdy built his team on potential, not paper. I don’t care what you put on a paper, he says. I talk to you and I hear that you have something, I will give you a chance.
He leads with heart, transparent, grounded, and deeply spiritual. His lessons are simple but timeless: keep overheads low, build a strong team, stay spiritually centered, and travel widely. Travelling will humble you, he reminds us, a nod to the value of learning from the world beyond our borders.
