Uganda’s coffee exports in September surged 59% year-on-year, fueled by a bumper crop in key producing regions, the agriculture ministry reported on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
In September, Africa’s largest coffee exporter shipped 844,949 60-kg bags of coffee, up from 532,212 bags during the same period last year, according to the ministry’s report.
Coffee, alongside gold, remains one of Uganda’s primary sources of foreign exchange.

The agriculture ministry projects a 15% increase in coffee production for the new crop year that began this month.
“Coffee export volume was higher than the previous year on account of increased coffee production as the harvest in Central and Eastern regions is already underway,” the report stated.
Uganda earned $2.2 billion from coffee exports over the 12 months ending in September, marking a 57% rise compared with the same period a year earlier, according to ministry data.
