Tinubu Holds Emergency Security Meeting With Service Chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday convened an emergency security meeting with Nigeria’s top military and intelligence leadership at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, amid escalating security concerns across the country.

The high-level, closed-door meeting brought together the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as heads of key intelligence agencies and the Inspector-General of Police.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu was also in attendance. The emergency session was triggered by rising insecurity nationwide, with particular focus on the fallout from a recent military airstrike in Borno State that reportedly killed over 100 civilians in Jilli Market along the Borno–Yobe axis.

The development has intensified pressure on the Federal Government and security agencies, as Nigeria continues to grapple with multiple threats including insurgency in the North-East, banditry and kidnappings in the North-West and North-Central, and separatist-related violence in the South-East.

The meeting also follows heightened international concern over Nigeria’s security situation, including a recent advisory by the United States authorising the departure of non-essential embassy staff from Abuja due to what it described as a deteriorating security environment.

Presidency sources indicate that the meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reassess current security strategies, strengthen coordination among agencies, and respond decisively to recent incidents undermining public safety.
