President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Tony Elumelu, describing him as a leading figure in African enterprise and a central proponent of Africapitalism.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Tinubu characterized Elumelu as “an African business icon” whose career reflects resilience, disciplined execution, and a sustained commitment to private sector–driven development across Nigeria and the continent.
The President specifically commended Elumelu’s long-standing advocacy of Africapitalism—a framework that positions African private capital and entrepreneurship as primary drivers of economic transformation. He noted that this philosophy continues to shape investment thinking and enterprise development across Africa.

Tinubu further highlighted Elumelu’s institutional footprint, referencing his leadership across Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa, and Transcorp, alongside his philanthropic intervention through the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
Particular emphasis was placed on the Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme, which has trained millions of young Africans and provided seed capital to thousands of startups across 54 countries, reinforcing youth inclusion in economic growth.
The President concluded by acknowledging Elumelu’s role in advancing African enterprise credibility globally, while wishing him continued strength and sustained impact in business and philanthropy.
