Saudi Arabia Seeks New Trade and Investment Partnerships in Mauritania and Morocco

Saudi Arabia is expanding its trade and investment presence in Africa as more than 30 top investors and officials visit Mauritania and Morocco to explore new opportunities across key sectors.

The delegation, led by the Federation of Saudi Chambers (FSC), began its official visit to Northwest Africa on June 29, according to Arab News.

The trip includes meetings aimed at showcasing investment incentives, reviewing the business climate, and identifying potential partnerships.

This mission is designed to promote Saudi investment prospects and strengthen collaboration between Saudi businesses and their African counterparts.

It supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify its economy and build global partnerships.

Riyadh is showing growing interest in deepening its trade links with African nations as part of this broader goal.

“Both sides hope that this visit will open new horizons for trade and investment relations,” reported the Saudi Press Agency.

Trade between Saudi Arabia and Mauritania reached SR119 million ($32.13 million), with Saudi exports making up 99 percent of that figure.

Trade with Morocco totaled SR5 billion, with imports accounting for 13 percent of the value, highlighting the untapped opportunities Saudi investors hope to pursue.

FSC Chairman Hassan Moejeb Al-Huwaizi is leading the delegation, which will hold meetings with Mauritanian officials and business leaders in Nouakchott.

The two-day visit includes a joint Saudi-Mauritanian business forum that will focus on partnerships in various sectors.

The forum will involve the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Investment, the General Authority of Foreign Trade, and the Saudi Fund for Development.

Saudi exports to Mauritania are mostly metals, rubber goods, dairy and animal products, and machinery.

Imports from Mauritania are limited and mainly include fish, shellfish, tea, spices, textiles, and medical and optical instruments.

Saudi trade with Morocco stands at SR5 billion, with imports representing 13 percent.

In 2024, Riyadh and Rabat signed a cooperation agreement between their chambers of commerce to strengthen business ties through financial collaboration, joint events, trade delegations, and dispute resolution.

This visit is part of the FSC’s continued global outreach, following trade missions to 17 countries in support of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to open new markets and boost international trade and investment.
