The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has officially inaugurated a cutting-edge distribution centre for Zipline, a global instant logistics and drone delivery service, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Nigeria.
This state-of-the-art facility, commissioned by Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Muhammad Ali Pate and Bayelsa state Governor Douye Diri, will serve as Zipline’s core facility in the region.
Equipped with advanced warehousing, temperature-controlled storage, and inventory management systems, this centre will facilitate swift, on-demand medical deliveries to hundreds of health facilities and community delivery sites across a vast 38,000 sq km service area. This ensures consistent access to essential supplies, even in the state’s most remote regions.
Since launching in Bayelsa in 2023, Zipline has played a crucial role in strengthening healthcare access, delivering over one million vaccine doses and over 71,000 units of essential medicines.
The company has also spearheaded large-scale vaccination and health campaigns, distributing hundreds of thousands of supplements and tablets to communities across the state.
Zipline’s impact extends beyond Nigeria, with partnerships in Rwanda, Ghana, and Kenya, among others. The company has also collaborated with e-commerce platforms like Jumia to enhance delivery services.
With 13 distribution centres across Africa, Zipline creates job opportunities, employing local talent and generating over 30 high-skilled jobs per centre.
