Morocco has solidified its role as a pivotal catalyst for South-South partnerships, serving as a natural link between Africa’s diverse regions and other countries of the Global South, King Mohammed VI declared.
In a message to the 2025 “Ibrahim Governance Weekend” held in Marrakech from June 1 to 3, the King highlighted Morocco’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic and social transformation across the continent through large-scale, practical projects.
“This is the approach we are applying through major continental projects, such as the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP). It is a concrete example of integrated economic development,” the King said in a message read by Royal Advisor André Azoulay.
He also referenced the Atlantic Initiative, designed to improve Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, aiming to lay the groundwork for a new model of regional cooperation.
Morocco has further launched the Rabat Atlantic African States Process, intended to bring benefits to all countries in the region.
The King underscored Morocco’s accumulated expertise in strategic sectors like renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, financial services, and transport infrastructure as vital building blocks for enhancing trade and partnerships continent-wide.
“Morocco, being fully aware of the paramount importance of financing, has adopted a strategic approach by putting in place innovative financial mechanisms and ensuring the effective mobilization of domestic resources,” the Monarch noted.
He pointed to the Mohammed VI Investment Fund as a critical financial instrument supporting private investment, small and medium-sized enterprises, technological innovation, and sustainable development.
Casablanca Finance City was also highlighted for its success as a major regional financial hub, attracting significant capital flows to Africa.
“The Kingdom of Morocco will keep up its resolute action to fulfil its duty and mobilize resources successfully, strengthen strategic partnerships, and promote effective financial mechanisms, in keeping with its constructive vision of South-South cooperation, and in accordance with its unwavering commitment to achieving comprehensive, sustainable development for the benefit of African peoples,” King Mohammed VI reaffirmed.
The Ibrahim Governance Weekend, hosted annually by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in different African nations, focuses on the continent’s resources as key to accelerating development and boosting Africa’s role in the global economy.
This year’s event featured discussions on leadership challenges, resource mobilization, reforms of the multilateral financial system, and investment strategies under the theme “Financing the Africa We Want.”
