Mayowa Akande, CEO of Vazzel: The Engineer Turning Fashion Into a Smarter, Borderless Marketplace

Mayowa Akande works where technology meets everyday life, using engineering to make things simple, smooth, and easy to use for people and businesses.

He represents a new generation of innovators blending technology, business, and creativity to build systems that work better for everyone. His work brings together strong technical skills and fashion, creating a space where structure meets style.

At the core of his impact is a clear understanding that fashion is more than expression, it is a system that needs visibility, access, and smooth connection between creators and buyers.

Mayowa has focused on solving the problem of fragmentation that often holds designers and vendors back, creating opportunities where both big brands and new designers can grow side by side. His approach is simple, make discovery easier, increase access, and give brands the tools they need to grow.

In 2024, he co-founded Vazzel, Vazzel is a fully online fashion marketplace that connects designers, vendors, and people who love fashion on one platform. Through Vazzel, his focus is on creating a central space where fashion businesses can show their products, manage their stores, and reach more people without limits.

His work through Vazzel has also earned him recognition among Africa’s rising Under 40 CEOs through platforms like Crest Africa, reflecting the growing impact of what he is building across the industry.

Before starting his business, Mayowa built a strong career in engineering and technology. He gained early experience through internships between 2014 and 2016, including working as an electrical project engineer at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. These early roles helped him learn how to solve problems and work with large systems.

He later joined Longbridge Technologies Ltd in 2019 as an IT project engineer, where he worked on tech solutions for businesses.

In 2020, he moved to Katoen Natie, a logistics company in Belgium, where he worked as a project control coordinator, improving his skills in operations and process management. Between 2021 and 2022, he also trained in data and automation engineering at Awingu, learning more about automation and smart systems.

Mayowa studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Nigeria. He also earned a master’s degree in Electronic Engineering and Information Technology from the Université libre de Bruxelles. This strong education helps him combine engineering and technology to build smart solutions.

Through his work with AI in fashion, Mayowa Akande focuses on helping people find what they want faster and easier. His work helps connect what customers like with what brands offer, using data to improve how products are shown and sold. This is helping change how online marketplaces work for both sellers and buyers.

Beyond technology, his impact shows in how he is opening doors in the fashion industry. Mayowa is creating a system where new designers can be seen, big brands can grow, and customers can enjoy a better shopping experience. His work points to a future where technology makes fashion more simple and more accessible.

Mayowa Akande is driven by a clear mission, to build smart systems that improve how industries connect and grow. In today’s fast-changing digital world, his work places him among the leaders shaping the future of AI-driven business in Africa.
