Nigerian Afrobeats artiste Kidd Carder has reached another notable point in his growing music career with a nomination for Rookie of the Year at the 18th 2026 Headies, placing him among seven emerging talents gaining recognition across the country’s music scene.
The Lagos-based artiste is nominated alongside Amma, Danpapa GTA, FirstKlaz, NO11, Priesst and OG Abbah. According to NET, the category recognises a new artiste who achieved a significant breakthrough during the eligibility period, which covers music released between August 1, 2024 and April 30, 2026.
For Kidd Carder, the recognition follows a journey that began with rap covers before developing into a broader Afrobeats career supported by consistent releases, collaborations and his 2026 EP, Before I Blow.

FirstKlaz brings another cultural dimension to the category. The Abuja-based artiste combines Afrobeats, Fuji, R&B, hip-hop and traditional Hausa influences, with songs including “Gen-Z Fuji,” “Gen-Z Fuji II,” “Gen-Z Faaji,” “Gen-Z Arewa,” “Alhaji” and “Soyaiya.”
His “Gen-Z Arewazobia” collaboration with Jeriq and Zlatan brought Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba influences together, reflecting the different cultural references emerging within contemporary Nigerian music.
NO11, another Abuja-based artiste, works across hip-hop and Afro-fusion. His catalogue includes “How Far,” “Shima II,” “No Love in Lagos,” “Composure,” “Show Me The Way,” “Man of the Hour,” “Warrior” and “Way2easy.”
The March 2026 remix of “How Far” brought together South African artistes Focalistic and Ciza with Nigerian artistes Famous Pluto and Ayjay Bobo, extending the song through a collaboration involving talents from both countries.
Priesst, whose real name is Caleb Odugbose, combines Afrobeats, Afropop and rap with African influences. His releases include “Akonuche,” “Puff Puff Pass” and “Osimhen,” while his 2025 project KURIMA expanded his catalogue further.
OG Abbah completes the Rookie of the Year lineup with a sound rooted in Hausa culture and contemporary Afrobeats. His “Wayyo Allah Na,” popularly associated with the “Kakashe Kakashe” phrase, attracted attention on TikTok in 2025, while “Samu Kudinka Kawai Ka Kashe” continued his exploration of Hausa-influenced Afrobeats.
Against these different musical identities, Kidd Carder enters the category with a story shaped by his transition from rap covers to singing, the development of his original catalogue and a growing collection of collaborations.
