Nigerian singer Liya has disclosed that emotional strain and personal dissatisfaction forced her to leave Davido Music Worldwide, the label owned by Davido.
Speaking in a recent interview, the artiste described her experience during her time with the label as mentally exhausting, stating that the period became “depressing” and “tiring,” despite public perception that she was thriving.
Liya explained that her decision to exit the label was driven by a desire for personal and professional growth, noting that she “wanted more” for herself beyond what she was experiencing at the time.
She admitted the decision was difficult but necessary, revealing that she struggled emotionally while under the label.
According to her, the situation affected her confidence and public presence, to the extent that she stopped managing her own social media accounts for about two to three years, relying instead on her manager to handle postings.
The singer also addressed public criticism she faced during that period, saying many people misunderstood her situation and labelled her as lazy or unproductive, unaware of the internal challenges she was dealing with.
Liya, who joined DMW in 2020 as its first female signee and exited around 2023, maintained that leaving was ultimately a personal decision aimed at reclaiming control of her career and well-being.
