International Women’s Day: empower women to build stronger Nigeria, says First Lady

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater empowerment of women and girls, stressing that advancing their rights and opportunities is essential to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

In a message marking the 2026 International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8, the First Lady joined millions of Nigerians and the international community in recognising the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women across the country and around the world.

Tinubu emphasised that empowering women should not be seen as an act of charity but as a strategic investment in the nation’s future.

According to her, when women have access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, leadership platforms, justice, and equity, societies become stronger and more inclusive.

Highlighting the theme of the 2026 celebration — “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls” the First Lady said the occasion serves as a reminder of the need for sustained action to protect women’s rights and ensure equal opportunities across all sectors of society.

Tinubu also celebrated the courage, determination, and accomplishments of Nigerian women, stating that their contributions remain central to the country’s progress and prosperity.

She reiterated that when women are empowered and given the resources needed to thrive, the benefits extend beyond individuals to families, communities, and the entire nation.
