The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria has revised the timetable for the 2027 general elections, announcing that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now take place on Saturday, January 16, 2027.
Previously the polls were set for February 20, 2027 under the repealed Electoral Act, 2022.
Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections have been rescheduled to Saturday, February 6, 2027.

The adjustment follows theprepeal of the Electoral Act, 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, which altered statutory timelines for electoral activities.
INEC also outlined a schedule of preparatory milestones: party primaries and dispute resolution are set to run from April 23 to May 30, 2026, presidential and National Assembly campaigns begin August 19, 2026, and governorship/state assembly campaigning starts September 9, 2026, with all campaigns mandated to end 24 hours before election days.

Additionally, the Osun State governorship election has been moved from August 8 to August 15, 2026. The revised timetable is intended to ensure compliance with the new legal framework and is published on INEC’s official platforms.
