I’m no longer interested in Grammy, Western validations’ – Davido

Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido has declared that he is no longer interested in pursuing Grammy Awards or seeking validation from Western audiences, signaling a strategic shift in his music career.

The singer made the statement during an interview on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show, where he reflected on his global success and evolving artistic priorities.

He stated that he has already achieved major international milestones, including performing at top venues worldwide and attending the Grammys multiple times in recent years.

Davido said his focus has now moved away from external recognition toward authenticity and cultural identity.

According to him, his upcoming music will be rooted fully in African sound and expression, rather than being tailored to appeal to Western markets.

“This part of my career… I’ve performed everywhere, sold out every arena… the music that is coming next is very African,” he said, emphasizing that he is no longer interested in creating Western-influenced records.

The artist noted that his past achievements, including multiple Grammy nominations over the last three years, have given him a sense of fulfillment, allowing him to focus on making music on his own terms.

The shift marks a broader repositioning of his brand toward strengthening Afrobeats’ global identity from an African standpoint rather than chasing Western industry approval.
