From Stethoscope to Studio: How Acer Chap Balances Medicine, Music, and Art to Inspire a Generation

Some people are born to choose one path. But then there are rare souls like Acer Chap, people who create their own. A doctor, a music artist, and a graphics designer, Acer’s story is a stunning reminder that purpose isn’t always singular. It’s layered, colorful, and deeply human.

Before he ever put on a white coat, he was already crafting melodies that moved hearts. While studying medicine, he was also designing visuals that told stories. And somewhere between sleepless hospital nights and studio sessions, he found harmony in the chaos, blending science, faith, and creativity into one unforgettable journey.

Acer’s story is not just about talent; it’s about persistence, divine grace, and the courage to stay authentic while wearing multiple hats. His music reflects his journey of faith. His designs mirror his vision. And his medical career reveals his discipline and empathy, the same qualities that shine through every creative work he produces.

Whether you’re a multi-passionate dreamer or someone trying to balance purpose and profession, Acer’s story will remind you that it’s possible to live fully, and soar higher than you ever imagined.

In this interview, Acer opens up about his journey, challenges, creative process, and the faith-driven passion that fuels it all.

CA: Acer, you wear many hats, doctor, music artist, and graphics designer. That’s quite a mix! How did your journey in these three paths begin?

Acer: It all started before medical school. I would come up with melodies, hum them, and fit words into rhythms. Out of curiosity to hear what my own record would sound like, I began making amateur instrumentals on my laptop and recording myself.

By the time I started music professionally, I was already in my early years of medical school. Over time, my songs became reflections of my journey as a Christian navigating medical school.

My passion for the arts also led me to learn graphic design through YouTube tutorials, which soon allowed me to promote my music with my own artworks and motion graphics.

CA: That’s such a beautiful beginning. Balancing medicine, music, and design isn’t easy. How do you manage to give your best in each field?

Acer: Sometimes I like to describe it as being a doctor by day, a graphics designer by night, and a Christian music artist at all times. Balancing all three has been possible through God’s grace, hard work, prioritization, proper timing, and the moral support I’ve received along the way.

CA: That balance sounds like an art form in itself! How has your background and experience as a doctor influenced your approach to music and design?

Acer: Being in the medical field has its advantages, it teaches organization, precision, and problem-solving. Those skills often spill into my creative process. At times, I’ve drawn inspiration from medical experiences to write songs.

I also needed album artworks, so I taught myself how to make them, and that skill has grown into something I now do for clients as well.

CA: I love how you connect science and art, it’s a rare blend! But I imagine it’s not always smooth. What challenges have you faced combining both worlds, and how did you overcome them?

Acer: One major challenge has been finding time for each discipline. But passion has always been my driving force, it keeps me consistent and helps me balance everything despite the workload.

CA: Speaking of passion, your song Soar remains a fan favorite. What inspired it, and how does it feel seeing your creativity recognized in different ways?

Acer: Honestly, it feels humbling. Looking back, the inspiration behind Soar feels almost prophetic. When I started writing it, I wanted to create a song that everyone could relate to.

Before then, I was known for writing songs that were deep but not easily catchy. Soar became my first song to blend Igbo, Yoruba, Pidgin, and English in one track, centered on the message: “We will soar.” I’m truly grateful that both the original and remix versions were so warmly received around the world.

CA: That’s truly powerful, a song that unites people across languages and emotions. And your cover of Johnny Drille’s “How Are You My Friend” went viral! How did that moment shape your music journey?

Acer: My cover of Johnny Drille’s “How Are You My Friend? was a turning point. The song practically promoted itself. It became my first track to land on an editorial playlist, on Boomplay, and since then, several of my songs have been playlisted editorially on Boomplay, Spotify, and Apple Music.

CA: That’s amazing, seeing your work reach new heights must be fulfilling. You’ve collaborated with several artists and brands like Kid of the Month and Brandspar. How have these collaborations shaped your creativity and growth as an artist?

Acer: Working with different artists and producers has continuously redefined my sound. Each collaboration brings new energy, fresh ideas, and unique melodies. I often get feedback that my lyrics and production quality have improved over the years.

On the graphics side, I’ve worked with several clients under freelance contracts, and having to deliver high-quality designs within tight deadlines has been both challenging and rewarding.

CA: It’s inspiring how every project becomes a stepping stone. Since your recognition as Face of the Month in 2017 to your international collaboration on Prime Time II, what moments have defined your growth the most?

Acer: I like to see every step of the journey as a milestone. One of the biggest milestones so far has been my graduation from medical school, it marked a major transition and symbolized growth across all areas of my life and career.

CA: Congratulations on that, such a major accomplishment! What upcoming projects or milestones are you most excited about right now?

Acer: I recently released a 6-track EP titled Milestones: New Horizons, and I’m currently working on the second part, Milestones: Rising Above. Beyond music, I’m also expanding my skill set and exploring new creative directions.

CA: Sounds like there’s so much more to look forward to. Finally, for anyone trying to juggle multiple passions like you, what’s your biggest piece of advice?

Acer: If you have the passion, go for it. Otherwise, you might spend a lifetime wondering, “What if?”
