China handed over 3,900 solar kits to Togo on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Lomé, reinforcing the country’s push toward universal electricity access by 2030.
The donation forms part of China’s “Africa Solar Belt” project, designed to advance the continent’s energy transition and strengthen climate action.
The photovoltaic kits are intended to supply electricity for rural households, offering off-grid solutions that will accelerate rural electrification, diversify Togo’s energy mix, and support low-carbon development.
Officials noted that the initiative aligns with deepening Sino-African cooperation in renewable energy, particularly in solar power, according to Togo First.

Robert Koffi Eklo, the Minister Delegate for Energy, said the kits are expected to bring electricity to more than 20,000 Togolese who live in communities not connected to the national grid.
He added that their use would contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Chinese Ambassador to Togo Min Wang praised Togo’s commitment to climate action, stating that the donation reflects China’s ongoing support for the country’s energy transition.
The Ministry of Energy plans to conduct training sessions for Togolese technicians ahead of deployment to ensure proper installation and long-term maintenance. With support from various partners, Togo had already reached an electricity access rate of 70% by the end of 2024.
