The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu as its Acting Secretary-General, marking a historic milestone for Nigeria in continental football governance.
Adamu’s appointment was confirmed on Sunday, March 29, 2026, during a CAF Congress held in Cairo, Egypt.
His nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and subsequently ratified by the Congress.
He replaces Veron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down from the role the same day, creating a leadership transition within the organisation.

The appointment makes Adamu the first Nigerian to occupy the position since CAF was established over 70 years ago, ending a decades-long absence of Nigerian representation at the top administrative level of African football.
Before his elevation, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a key role in organising major competitions across the continent, including flagship tournaments.
The Secretary-General position is regarded as the administrative engine of CAF, responsible for overseeing daily operations, implementing executive decisions, and managing the organisation’s legal and operational framework.
