Bobson Rugambwa is a Rwandan entrepreneur and fintech leader building technology that helps close Africa’s financial inclusion gap.
As the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of MVend Limited, Bobson has positioned the Rwanda-based company as a provider of digital financial infrastructure designed to serve unbanked and underbanked communities across East Africa.
Armed with a Computer Science degree from Makerere University and a Master’s in Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon University Africa, Bobson built his expertise at the intersection of software engineering, financial systems, and inclusive product design.
In 2013, he co-founded MVend Limited with a mission to help organizations deploy scalable financial solutions that reach populations often excluded from traditional banking systems.
Under his leadership, MVend developed Gwiza, the company’s flagship digital wallet and payments platform, designed to help users save, receive funds, make payments, and access financial services through mobile technology.
What makes the platform especially impactful is its accessibility: users do not need a smartphone or constant internet connection to use it. Through simple USSD menus and text messaging, people can access financial services from basic mobile phones, making the platform practical for communities where smartphones or reliable internet are not always available.
Today, MVend supports thousands of users and savings groups through its digital financial infrastructure, helping businesses, institutions, and community organizations manage payment collection, salary disbursement, supplier settlements, social assistance distribution, and embedded financial services through a centralized platform.
Before founding MVend, Bobson served as Technical Manager at Imaginet, where he developed experience in technology infrastructure and systems implementation, experience that later informed his work building scalable financial technology solutions.
What distinguishes Bobson Rugambwa is his commitment to designing financial technology for real-world accessibility. His work focuses not just on innovation, but on ensuring digital financial systems can function effectively for underserved communities across African markets.
