AfDB Lends Morocco $316 Million For Airport Upgrades Ahead Of 2030 FIFA World Cup

The African Development Bank said on Friday it will lend Morocco 270 million euros ($316 million) to upgrade airport infrastructure as the country prepares to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Reuters reported.

The financing will support the expansion of passenger terminals and the modernisation of equipment at airports in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier and Fez, AfDB said in a statement.

Morocco plans to invest 38 billion dirhams ($4 billion) to raise total airport passenger capacity to 80 million by 2030, up from 38 million currently, as it braces for a surge in tourist arrivals ahead of the tournament, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
