Dangote Names Its Petroleum Refinery Road After Tinubu

The Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced that the main access road leading to the massive Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals complex will be named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in recognition of his pivotal role in supporting the project and championing the private sector.

Speaking during President Tinubu’s visit to the refinery on Thursday, June 5, 2025, which coincided with the official commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road, Dangote credited the President as the original visionary behind the Lekki Free Trade Zone during his time as Governor of Lagos State.

“The Dangote refinery complex is, in many ways, your brainchild. Mr President, let me just say one thing, the main road leading into our refinery is now to be known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road,” Dangote declared.

The announcement was met with applause as President Tinubu stood and shook hands with Dangote in front of the gathered dignitaries.

The newly commissioned Deep Sea Port Access Road connects the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Free Trade Zone, and Dangote Refinery to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway via Ijebu Ode, marking a key milestone in Nigeria’s evolving infrastructure network.

During the event, Dangote also disclosed that the Group, despite paying N450 billion in taxes last year, is investing an additional N900 billion into road infrastructure projects across Nigeria.

The Deep Sea Port Access Road is one of several developments funded by the Dangote Group under the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme.

He emphasized that the Group is currently the highest tax-paying company in the country, contributing more to national revenue than all of Nigeria’s banks combined.

Among the ongoing projects are eight major road developments totaling 500 kilometers, including two in Borno State that will link Nigeria to Chad and Cameroon.

Praising the administration’s direction, Dangote described President Tinubu as a bold and forward-thinking leader whose governance has helped restore investor confidence.

He also expressed appreciation for the President’s support of the Lekki Deep Sea Port initiative, reaffirming the private sector’s commitment to working alongside the government to expand infrastructure nationwide.

In response, President Tinubu applauded the Dangote Refinery and associated infrastructure projects as monumental achievements that symbolize Nigeria’s industrial promise.

“Having inspected the Dangote refinery, which is a great point of reference, a great phenomenon of our time and a massive investment, I want to thank Aliko Dangote,” Tinubu said.

Reflecting on his legacy as the initiator of the Lekki Deep Sea Port project during his time as Lagos Governor, the President added, “I am happy that the Deep Sea Port I initiated as Governor of Lagos State is a huge success today. Users save vast amounts of money using this port because they no longer need to trans-ship their goods.”

He also commended the road infrastructure quality delivered under the Tax Credit Road programme, saying, “I commend the quality of the access road done by Messrs Dangote Industries Limited on our Tax Credit Road programme and the subcontractor, Messrs Hitech Construction Company Limited.”
