The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited has announced the launch of a regional Space-Tech Hackathon, aimed at empowering young Nigerians in the Northeast region.
The event, themed “Building Grassroots Innovation in Satellite Technology,” is scheduled to take place from February 24 to 28 in Yola, Adamawa State.
According to a statement by the Head of Corporate Affairs at NIGCOMSAT, Aisha Bantam, the hackathon is designed to engage and empower young university students, local innovators, and young professionals from the region.
The event targets participants from six states in the region, including Borno, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Adamawa.
The Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, highlighted that winning teams from the hackathon would transition into the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme cohort 2025. There, they will further refine their solutions and receive mentorship and resources to help bring their products to market.
The Adamawa event marks the beginning of a series of four regional hackathons, with subsequent events to be held in other regions.
The initiative is part of NIGCOMSAT’s efforts to promote grassroots innovation in satellite technology and empower young Nigerians to develop innovative solutions.
