After reviewing more than 1,000 job applications and training over 200 professionals, the founder of SBMark noticed a troubling pattern. Many qualified candidates were spending months searching for work, submitting countless applications and gradually losing confidence in their abilities. Their problem was not always a lack of skills. Often, they struggled to identify suitable opportunities and demonstrate the experience employers were looking for.
That experience inspired the development of SBMark, an AI-powered career platform built to help professionals make more informed decisions before applying for jobs.
The company’s message, “Stop applying blind. Check before you apply,” challenges the traditional approach to job hunting, where candidates often measure their efforts by the number of applications they submit. SBMark instead focuses on helping users assess their suitability for a role, understand its requirements and decide how best to proceed.
At the centre of the platform is MARK, an AI career partner designed to evaluate job descriptions against a candidate’s resume and Career DNA, a fuller record of their professional experience. MARK provides three recommendations, Apply, Strengthen first and Skip, explaining the reasoning behind each assessment while leaving the final decision to the user.
The idea for SBMark began in 2021, when its founder started consulting for technology professionals on resume writing and interview preparation. The work expanded into 12-week training programmes in business analysis and product management, with cohorts of more than 40 participants. Over time, the founder realised that professional training alone could not solve the challenges people faced when searching for jobs.
This understanding shaped the platform’s approach to AI-powered job search, combining opportunity assessment with resume tailoring, personalised outreach, interview preparation and career development.
Unlike tools that focus mainly on generating applications, SBMark is being developed around the principle that career support should help people communicate their actual experience without exaggeration. Its approach also extends to assessing the freshness and credibility of job listings, while acknowledging that technology cannot determine with certainty what is happening inside an employer’s recruitment process.
The platform is scheduled to launch on November 21, 2026, in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. According to the founder, 3,000 Founding Member places have been opened, with 228 professionals enrolled at the time of the interview and granted access to test the platform ahead of its public launch.
For the founder, the ambition goes beyond introducing another recruitment tool. It is about making an AI-powered job search more deliberate and helping professionals recognise the value of their experience, particularly those seeking access to international career opportunities.
In this Crest Africa Spotlight Interview, the founder discusses the journey behind SBMark, the thinking that shaped MARK’s recommendations, the importance of authenticity in AI-generated career materials and the company’s plans to help professionals build careers with greater confidence.

How SBMark Evolved From Career Coaching Into an AI-Powered Job Search Platform
Crest Africa: SBMark is built around the message, “Stop applying blind. Check before you apply.” What inspired the idea behind the platform, and what problems in the job search process were you determined to solve?
SBMark Founder: I started SBMark in 2021 as a consultant, helping tech professionals rewrite their resumes and prepare for interviews. That grew into 12-week classes in business analysis and product management, with more than 40 people at a time. To date, I’ve trained more than 200 professionals.
What stayed with me was what happened after the training. Some people got offers quickly. Others searched for months, sometimes a year, and started treating every rejection as a judgment on their worth.
I knew what they were capable of. The problem wasn’t their skills. It was how they were navigating the search.
Three problems kept showing up. People were mass-applying and hoping, which is not a strategy. They were applying to roles they couldn’t win, or to good roles without showing the evidence that made them a fit. And the process was scattered across job boards, resume tools and AI chats, so nobody was helping them connect the dots.
“Stop applying blind. Check before you apply” came from that. Understand the opportunity first, then decide where your effort is worth it.
Most job platforms show you the job listing. SBMark shows you where you can win.
I still love teaching. Through SBMark Career Lab, I host live sessions where professionals bring their real career questions, from positioning their experience to negotiating better pay, and we work through them together.
How MARK Helps Professionals Identify Suitable Job Opportunities
Crest Africa: Your AI career partner, MARK, evaluates opportunities before users apply. How does this approach change the way professionals identify jobs that genuinely match their experience and qualifications?
SBMark Founder: It changes the starting question. Most job searches start with “Can I apply?” MARK starts with “Should I, and can I make a credible case?”
I always say every job description is a business need. A company needs someone to improve, build, fix or deliver something.
So MARK reads the job for its critical requirements, then compares each one against the evidence in your resume and your Career DNA, the fuller picture of what you’ve actually done.
That changes what people see. Instead of a list of jobs with familiar titles, they see where their experience is strong, where it’s partial and where there’s a real gap.
Sometimes a role with a different title turns out to be a strong fit because the work underneath matches. Sometimes a perfect-looking title hides a requirement they don’t meet.
The result is fewer applications, but ones people can stand behind.
Why SBMark Prioritises Honest Job Recommendations Over More Applications
Crest Africa: One of SBMark’s distinguishing features is its three verdicts: Apply, Strengthen first and Skip. Why was it important to give job seekers an honest assessment instead of simply encouraging them to submit more applications?
SBMark Founder: Because every wrong application costs something: hours of tailoring, energy and confidence when the silence comes.
I’ve watched talented people lose belief in themselves after dozens of applications to roles that were never a good fit.
So MARK gives one of three verdicts.
Apply means the opportunity looks worth pursuing and you meet most of the critical requirements.
Strengthen first means you’re competitive, but important experience needs to be clearer or better supported before you apply.
Skip means there’s a significant gap, a hard eligibility blocker or a serious concern about the opportunity.
“Strengthen first” matters most to me. It exists so that people who are close aren’t told to give up. Often the experience is there, it just isn’t visible on the page.
And MARK always shows its reasons. It recommends. You decide.
Honesty isn’t about discouraging people. It’s about protecting their time for the opportunities where they have a real chance.
Assessing Job Listing Credibility Without Promising False Certainty
Crest Africa: Fake, outdated and ghost job listings can waste valuable time. How does MARK assess the credibility and freshness of job opportunities before recommending whether someone should apply?
SBMark Founder: I’m careful with words like “verify,” because no tool can see inside a company’s hiring process.
A listing can be genuine while the role was quietly filled last week.
What MARK can do is look at the signals available, what we call Opportunity Health: how old the listing is, whether it has been reposted, and whether the role still appears on the employer’s own careers page and on other job boards.
That last check is especially useful. If a job has disappeared from the company’s site but is still circulating elsewhere, it may already be closed. If it’s live in both places, the company is more likely to still be hiring.
MARK then tells you how confident it is, rather than presenting a guess as a fact.
An old listing isn’t automatically fake, and a repost isn’t automatically a ghost job. So when the information is incomplete, MARK says so and suggests what you can check yourself, such as the company’s careers page or a quick question to the recruiter.
The goal isn’t false certainty. It’s helping people decide where their next hour is best spent.
Connecting Job Evaluation, Resumes and Interview Preparation
Crest Africa: SBMark brings together job evaluation, tailored resumes, personalised outreach, interview preparation and application support. What guided your decision to build these tools into one platform?
SBMark Founder: Because that’s how people actually experience a job search: as one journey, not five separate tasks.
Today, a single application can mean the job board in one tab, a resume builder in another, an AI chat in a third, LinkedIn to find a contact and a spreadsheet to track it all.
You do all that work and you’re still left to figure out what it means.
The bigger problem is that the thread gets lost between tools. The requirement you identified in the job description should shape your resume, your message to the hiring manager and the stories you prepare for the interview.
When everything lives in separate places, that connection breaks.
In SBMark, MARK carries it through: from checking the opportunity, to tailoring your resume, to drafting outreach to a referral, the recruiter and the hiring manager, to preparing you for each interview round.
And the SBMark browser extension fills in application forms, so your time goes into the parts that actually make a difference.
Why Authenticity Matters in AI-Powered Job Search and Resume Writing
Crest Africa: Unlike platforms that generate generic resumes or application materials, SBMark builds recommendations around a candidate’s actual experience. Why is accuracy and authenticity so important to your approach to AI-powered career support?
SBMark Founder: Because a resume is a promise you have to keep in the interview room.
AI can make anyone sound impressive in seconds. But if a tool turns “supported a project” into “led a transformation,” the candidate has to defend a claim they can’t explain.
That’s not help. It’s a credibility problem waiting to happen.
So MARK’s principle is simple: make the experience clearer without inventing experience.
When a bullet is vague, MARK asks questions: what exactly did you do, how many people did it affect, what changed?
If you can’t back up a result, it stays out. And you approve every change.
There’s a bigger reason too. When everyone uses AI to sound polished, generic language stops standing out. Specific, truthful evidence is what makes a candidate memorable.
Authenticity isn’t a limitation on AI. It’s what makes AI career support actually work.
Preparing Professionals for Every Stage of the Interview Process
Crest Africa: SBMark prepares users for different interview stages, from recruiter screenings to final rounds, using the actual job description. What gaps in conventional interview preparation were you aiming to address?
SBMark Founder: Most interview prep is generic: fifty common questions and a list of tips.
But the recruiter screen, the hiring manager interview, the panel and the final round are each evaluating different things.
A recruiter is checking fit, motivation and the basics. A hiring manager wants evidence you can solve their specific problem. A panel may include a future colleague judging collaboration and a technical lead testing depth. A final round with leadership often looks at judgment and strategic thinking.
So MARK builds preparation from the actual job description and your own experience, stage by stage.
It helps you understand what each round is likely to assess, which of your stories to lead with, and how to explain your experience in a way that connects to what that interviewer cares about.
The gap we wanted to close is the one between knowing your experience and being ready to show it to the specific person across the table.
Building Career Opportunities Before They Become Urgent
Crest Africa: Your platform extends beyond job searching to career development, including market value insights, emerging skills and planning for future opportunities. Why do you believe professionals should remain intentional about career growth even when they are employed?
SBMark Founder: Because your career deserves your attention even when you have a job.
A company gives you a job. Your career is your responsibility.
Too many people only think about their careers when something goes wrong: a layoff, a difficult manager, burnout.
Then they have to remember years of achievements, update a resume they haven’t touched in years and figure out the market, all under pressure.
That pressure leads to mass applying, and rejection starts to chip away at their confidence.
That’s why SBMark goes beyond the job search, helping people understand their market value, see the skills rising in their field, document their progress and plan their next move while things are going well.
One of my greatest wishes for every professional is simple: to have options before they need them.
SBMark’s November 2026 Launch and Expansion Across 4 Countries
Crest Africa: SBMark is scheduled to launch on November 21, 2026, in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Nigeria, with plans to welcome its first 3,000 Founding Members. What informed your choice of these markets, and what do you hope to achieve during the initial launch?
SBMark Founder: These markets share a professional community. Many of the business and tech professionals we serve live, work or build careers across Nigeria, the UK, Canada and the US.
Our early community, our Founding Members, already comes from these markets, and they share a working language, which lets us support them well from day one.
Nigeria is especially personal for me. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with talented professionals across many countries, and I’ve often wished more Nigerians had the same access to those global opportunities.
I know how talented we are. What’s often missing isn’t ability. It’s access, visibility and the guidance to compete for global roles.
My biggest desire is for SBMark to connect Nigerian professionals to global opportunities, and to help them show employers anywhere what they can do.
Nigeria is where we’re starting, and we plan to expand across Africa from there.
We’ve opened 3,000 Founding Member places, and 228 professionals have joined so far, all with access to test SBMark before launch.
For the launch itself, I’m not measuring success by sign-ups alone. I want to see members apply more strategically, get more relevant responses and interviews, and feel more confident about their next move.

The Future of SBMark and AI-Powered Job Search
Crest Africa: SBMark draws on the experience of a hiring manager who has reviewed over 1,000 applications and trained more than 200 professionals. How has that firsthand understanding of recruitment influenced the platform’s development, and what lasting change do you hope SBMark will bring to career development?
SBMark Founder: Reviewing more than 1,000 applications taught me that being qualified and showing you’re qualified are two different things.
I’ve seen strong people describe their work so generally that the value disappeared, and capable people rule themselves out because their title didn’t match the advert.
That shaped everything in SBMark. MARK looks for evidence, not just keywords. It helps people connect their real experience to what an employer needs. And it’s honest about gaps, because I know from the hiring side that hope doesn’t fill them.
Training more than 200 professionals taught me the other half: skills alone aren’t enough. People also need someone to help them navigate.
The lasting change I hope for is a shift in how people see rejection and their own careers.
I want professionals to stop measuring progress by how many applications they send, and start measuring it by clarity, confidence and real opportunities.
If SBMark helps people understand their value and find work that fits where they want to go, that’s the change I want to make.
