Chowdeck, one of Nigeria’s leading food delivery startups, has announced plans to expand its operations to other African countries, with Ghana being its first international destination. The company aims to launch in Ghana as early as March, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Chowdeck has experienced rapid growth since its inception in 2021, reaching one million users and ₦30 billion in transactions in 2024. The company plans to expand its services to about 52 cities across Nigeria and internationally by the end of the year.
CEO Femi Aluko has expressed his vision for Chowdeck to become the dominant “super app” for ordering anything, anywhere in Africa.
The company has already diversified its services beyond food delivery, including retailers of essential items like pharmaceuticals, shopping mall goods, and market produce.
Chowdeck operates in major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, and Abuja, with over 10,000 delivery riders. The company’s expansion into Ghana will see it competing with established players like Uber Eats and Bolt Food.
Ghana’s food delivery market is projected to reach $540.1 million by 2029, with a 16.66% annual growth rate. However, the market also presents challenges, including high taxes, low wages, and high inflation, which have led to the exit of other delivery services in the past.
